imo that old as stingray is a muscles car. I dont care if its considered a sports car now but back then i bet it was considered a muscled car. I mean in the late 60 with the trans am, camaro, malibu,etc they were muscles car but now people consider them sports cars or family cars. So to me the corvette back in those days was a muscle car

Take it from the old man.
Muscle car: V8 powered mid sized sedan, two doors, four seats, big trunk. Pony car: Smaller four seater with a long hood and short trunk, Mustangs, Camaroes, Baracudas. Sports cars: Two seaters with low/no trunk space, only good for driving fast. The Corevette was is and will always be a sports car. Unless they add a back seat or a big trunk. |

uhhhhh yeah. I guess I was thinking "can it hang with muscle cars?" the answer is yes. but if you're asking "is it a sports car or a muscle car?" i'd have to say sports car.

no, it's just like the 351c in mustangs going from closed chamber to open chamber heads in 72 and using a cam that is retarded 6 degrees from the factory. chevy taking out the rectangle port heads and tossing on restricted oval port heads, bumping the cc's on the camel hump heads, reducing the advance in the distributors, etc and dodge dropping in horrible pistons, lower duration cams, restricting the exhaust ports on the heads with egr bumps. just a few examples I can think of off my head. and yes, as custom said. technically, the corvette was never a muscle car, it was a sports car and is classified as such by insurance companies. Just as the older 2 seat only thunderbirds were. Camaros such as the yenko's, the motion's, and the super rare all aluminum 427's could be ordered with the same drivetrain as the corvettes yet the insurance was hella cheaper for them as they weren't sports cars per say. |
