The early 90s external Toyota ignitors need a ground path to work, and it's supposed the come from being bolted to the firewall/engine. Make sure there;s no corrosion, that'll ---- things up.

If that were true, humidity would cause the same issues. Lets be honest you cannot pinpoint what the issue was with the dizzy.
I pulled a dizzy out of a prizim which was rained on for weeks with an open hood. My rolla never saw water on the engine.
Yet the problem is solved. I'm not trying to be an *** here but it wasn't water.

I think a more accurate assessment of the problem would be that the coil was going out and as it would heat up with the engine, resistance would increase and this would in turn not be able to provide enough current to ignite the fuel mixture at wot.

Removing the thermostat can cause engine wear and damage, and even cause it to overheat. Will cause more problems without solving any. Troubleshoot your ----. I still think you got moisture in the distributator.

when coolent is coming in cold all the time the oil breaks down into a form that likes to gel, this was a problem on a few toyotas from the 80's
