Re: Copperspray

all of the auto parts stores her in the states have them. its generally located in the same isle as the DIY gasket stuff/RTV/Epoxy stuff.

the brand that almost all the stores carry is called "Permatex Copper Spray". hopefully that will help.

but if your HG is leaking like a mofo, could there be and underlying problem like a warped head or deck?

i dont really live in the UK, well i do, but im offshore on a shitty little island,

all the autoparts stores over here are ----,

and the proper parts stores on the mainland dont have websites normally, so i figured it would be quicker to get it from " the states "

there is no problem with the block, its got a deck plate on it at the moment so it can get a hot hone but we cant get the fucker to seal properly, normally i use wellseal on a copper HG but aston recommend copperspray or similar, like the Permatex stuff,

just thought id ask you lot as yous seem to use it occasionally on honda builds,

Ive piddled with a few older Astons, what year/model are you working on?

Youve checked the head for straightness? Are you reusing the oem head bolts or using new ones?
Composite hg or metal hg?

Re: Copperspray

ill have to check, but it could be a DB4, i believe there were only 12 made in the world,

it doesnt have a head on it yet, its just a deck plate for hot honing purposes,

its a copper head gasket like mentioned before,

they are new headstuds as supplied by aston,

It isnt a "zagato" is it?

db4's wernt bad for poping hg's. I can see it if the head was warped, but to just have a plate on it?

You seriously need to check the block for not just overall straightness, but also need to check between cylinders and the corner points of where the cyl meet the water jacket.

If your having trouble getting it to seal with a deck plate, copperspray isnt going to help you any.

Re: Copperspray

the whole engine is being re-engineered,

the liners protrude from the block perfectly by a thou, the block is flat and parallel,

apparantly they were bad in general, leaking base gaskets, HG's going, general mechanical failures,

im unsure on the model, im sure its DB4, ill double check, i havent been involved in the project long, i just know there were only 12 of these shitty cars made!

normally deck plates tend to leak we have found, for unknown reasons, and be fine when the head is on, i just want to try a few options before the final build,

the problem is headgaskets are about $600, so we dont have that many go's at it!
