Re: Copperspray
all of the auto parts stores her in the states have them. its generally located in the same isle as the DIY gasket stuff/RTV/Epoxy stuff.
the brand that almost all the stores carry is called "Permatex Copper Spray". hopefully that will help. but if your HG is leaking like a mofo, could there be and underlying problem like a warped head or deck? |
Re: Copperspray
i dont really live in the UK, well i do, but im offshore on a shitty little island,
all the autoparts stores over here are ----, and the proper parts stores on the mainland dont have websites normally, so i figured it would be quicker to get it from " the states " there is no problem with the block, its got a deck plate on it at the moment so it can get a hot hone but we cant get the fucker to seal properly, normally i use wellseal on a copper HG but aston recommend copperspray or similar, like the Permatex stuff, just thought id ask you lot as yous seem to use it occasionally on honda builds, |

Are you reusing the oem head bolts or using new ones? Composite hg or metal hg? |
Re: Copperspray
ill have to check, but it could be a DB4, i believe there were only 12 made in the world,
it doesnt have a head on it yet, its just a deck plate for hot honing purposes, its a copper head gasket like mentioned before, they are new headstuds as supplied by aston, |

I can see it if the head was warped, but to just have a plate on it? You seriously need to check the block for not just overall straightness, but also need to check between cylinders and the corner points of where the cyl meet the water jacket. If your having trouble getting it to seal with a deck plate, copperspray isnt going to help you any. |
Re: Copperspray
the whole engine is being re-engineered,
the liners protrude from the block perfectly by a thou, the block is flat and parallel, apparantly they were bad in general, leaking base gaskets, HG's going, general mechanical failures, im unsure on the model, im sure its DB4, ill double check, i havent been involved in the project long, i just know there were only 12 of these shitty cars made! normally deck plates tend to leak we have found, for unknown reasons, and be fine when the head is on, i just want to try a few options before the final build, the problem is headgaskets are about $600, so we dont have that many go's at it! |
Re: Copperspray

Re: Copperspray

ill give the USAutomotive place a call tomorow |
Re: Copperspray
yea, i noticed that they only ship it via ground, thats why i posted up that link to the UK store.
good luck getting the stuff |
Re: Copperspray
If you want PM me you're adress, I'll find out what shipping is and let you know what it will cost to ship u a can if you want
|
Re: Copperspray
you cant ship aresol cans via air mail (overseas like the UK).
if you walk into the post office, you will see a sign that planly states its illigal. i dont recomend that you do it, it wont make it there. you might be able to sneak it in via UPS or FedEx, but shipping is going to be a bitch for international mail. it would be much easier, cheaper, and legal or him to find a local seller. |
Re: Copperspray
I live in germany and can ship you some via German mail if you like, they have it on the millitary base for like $10-$12.

any way as far as I know in order for a copper head gasket to seal the head must be O-RING, I used a copper gasket on a stock head before and it did not seal. I suggest getting a regular head gasket. |

I suggest getting a regular head gasket. there are a couple copper gasket makers out there that have found a way to not have to oring the block. one place inbeds a rubber/silicone/etc type material on the gasket allowing it to seal. http://www.scegaskets.com/images/pro...-ics-titan.jpg http://www.scegaskets.com/images/prod/bod-pic-ics-2.jpg http://www.scegaskets.com/products/ics.html another makes stainless rings that you use on the head side of the gasket that will inbed into the head and gasket rather than having to o ring the block. http://www.headgasket.com/images/rin...asket%20sm.jpg http://www.headgasket.com/index.html |

multi layer steel head gaskets are the way to go.

they can still leak as well. MLS gaskets are good, and i think its hard to say that one is better than the other (copper vs. mls) |
Re: Copperspray
its actually a DB2,
and its not as good as those titan HG's, i was looking at them in the sumit catalogue today, there was a guy on ebay that sells it, but he was " out of stock " but we rang him and he conviniently had 2 cans sat in his garage that he was " willing " to sell for a price, robbing ------. we managed to get all the machining done and its getting taken to a place called conventry balancing on the mainland, the balancing machine weighs 100 tonnes and sits on pots of mercury :S its used for balancing jet engine assemblies, |

Re: Copperspray
You must be either in jockland or one of the other bumfuck nowhere islands around the UK. Eithe way frost auto restoration stock pretty much everything you could ever imagine, do next day delivery and are generally sound as ----.
www.frost.co.uk Mind you, if you're dealing with such a rare automobile, i'm guessing you're probably familiar with them. They do alot of the ---- no one else supplies. I had a ride in a v8 vantage, can't beat the sound of all 8 carbs laughing at the ozone layer. |
Re: Copperspray
Precision milling of both the head and block is the way to go. Used in some Diesel engines. My Dad worked at Cummins years ago and they had quite a few like that. |
