Computer running sloooooooow, need to delete pron!
 

My computer is running so ------- slow it's pissing me off. I went into Windows Media player and deleted all video files, but it didn't free up any space on my HD. I deleted all temporary files and the trash can. It still didn't do anything and I can still view old video files that should be deleted. ??? How do I do it? ???

In most of my experiences with XP, the best result I always have when it starts running like ----, is backup your personal ----, format it, and install XP again.

I know its a little more time consuming, but even Microsoft will tell you their OS's need reinstallation about every 6 months to a year.

For now, you could try running disk defrag and disk cleanup utilities from the control panel, see if it helps a little.

if u deleted it from the player. u are only removing ti from the list, not the actually file..
i don`t think HD space will effect THAT much on the speed of ur computer, not if it is 100% full and there`s not enough vitual cache
go to msconfig and disable all the useless ---- program.
and disable all the unness.program that would start up with ur computer. it will help a lot.
oh don`t forget to defrag ur HD too.

don't worry boost, you're not the only one with a slow ass computer. as of right now i have approximately .8 gigs left on my HD. :'( too many pics. i just need to reinstall xp, have everything wiped out because of it, and then burn all my jpegs to cds. bleh, such a time consuming task. :-\

i'd suggest just throwing anything you'd like to save into your My Doc folder. then making a backup of that, as mentioned previously by whoever in this thread. then just reinstalling xp. starting from scratch always fixes the problem. :)

boostey....

click .. START > RUN
type in MSCONFIG then click OK

Click on the STARTUP TAB (at the top)
click on DISABLE ALL.
Click on close

This will disable startup programs and
should free some memory to make it run a little
quicker.

Run the Defrag as well.

Deleting it from Windows Media takes it off your playlist, not the hard drive. So go right directly to the folder and delete it.

Also, uninstall any programs you have that you dont want/dont use. Same with the windows programs ;)

Having no hard drive space wont necessarily make your computer slow.. and btw, I have 3 megabytes left on C:\. Yes, you read correctly. 3 megabytes.

i just need mine cleaned up. too much ---- on it that i don't know how it got there. and maybe mine was .8 mb left. eh, i dunno. i just know it's not very much. and i get that annoying you don't have and dics space left message all the time. along with you're running on very low or none at all virtual memory. gaaaaay.

HAHAHA i know!! i hate that! boooooo computers are gay. cell phone companies should just come out with uber plans so we can all just talk to each other for free all the time. no need for a computer then!! haha

I get those everytime I start my computer up and every time I open a thread with pictures in it. :-\

You guys don't understand I suck at computers. Last time I tried to just "reinstall" XP and start over I was without a computer for a couple weeks and had to pay some dude $60 to fix it. I had all kinds of viruses and ---- on it and I tried to reinsatll and I couldn't get back online. :(

When I deleted all the video files it asked if I wanted to delete them from the media player or delete them from my computer. I clicked "delete them from my computer" and it did nothing. ???

I'll try going into the actual file(if I can find it?)and deleteing it there. :-\

Well, try this Doc. Go to start, search, For Files or Folders. Then click "Pictures, music, or video". Then click on "Pictures and Photos" and "Video". Then click search, and when pron comes up, delete it :D

very true, windoz 98 is even worse. If i were you, install norton internet securities and anti virus... its stopped alot of garbage (viruses etc) that otherwise be ------- up your computer. Youd be VERY surprised at the amount of viruses and trojan horses you can get looking at pron... use protection (lol)

ok doc
when you deleted from the media player your removing from the playlist, you still need to scroll down and go into the deleted media folder select the ones you want to remove and delete again. This time media player will ask you if you wanna remove from the hard drive click yes.

as far as the virtual memory thing you need to right click my computer goto properties then click the advanced tab, then a new window will pop and click the advanced tab on that. Now on the bottom there is a box for the amount of virtual memory used, put it to like a 1000 MB so you dont have to worry about it anymore

Actually, I did. I did exactly what you said and deleted all that ----(except a few select ones 8))and it seems to be running about 99% faster now. :D My colors are all fucked up, but ---- it. :-\

Ok, I did that and it fixed the colors, but now it runs slow as ---- again. ??? :( What's wrong with my colors?

defrag your computer to. it helps it on speed. at lest once a week i do it. down side is it will take 30 mins + depending on how big your hard drive is.

Yeah, I just started defragmenting the kanuter valves.

I have no idea what happened with that file. ??? It normally saves them as .jpg :-\
