Default Computer Gurus I need help.

Occasionally my games freeze up.. the pc dont reboot, they just like pause where they're at and the audio ***** up. All drivers are updated and here's my setup.

xp64bit
P4 Dual Core 3.0ghz
8gb mem
2 x 1gb Palit geforce 9600gt vid cards in SLI
750w power supply
500gb hd

Can't figure this ---- out, I thought it was my power supply which was a 500w.. so I upgraded to a 750.. and it helped.. games dont freeze up AS much.. but i'm still gettin' some freezage. 750w is alot though.. wouldn't think i'd use that much.

Is your computer getting hot?

Does it do this in every games?

I don't work with monster like this often so I don't know about the powersupply tho...

Did you build it or you bought it like this?

Nah temps are staying around 40-55 max on the vid cards, and processor.
Yeah I bought it as a barebone system.. and built it off of that. In the games i've played such as Gears of war, Crysis warehead, Fallout3, NBA2k9.. I can play them all for about 5 mins.. then they just freeze still and the audio goes funky.. and i have to reboot the pc manually by pushing reset on the case to get it to reboot.. alt-tab doesn't work and alt-control delete doesn't work.

I'm gonna say it's a 64 bit driver problem, but I'm not totally certain. It's something I would look into though. Nvidia has been ------- up their drivers lately.

+1... I'm pretty positive it's not a hardware issue, so I'd look at the 64 bit issue or the last nvidia driver. Rule out the driver by rolling back to a previous driver, if you can find it.

It indeed was a driver issue.. Rolled back to the 178.13 driver and everything works great. Thanks guys

Computer hardware is my thing. I really need to build a new one so I can play some sweet games.

Shoulda went with the ATI Radeon 4850 or 4870

I finally moved up from the AMD 2400 with 1gb of ram to a quad core Q6600 overclocked from 2.4ghz to 3.6ghz, 8gb ram, radeon 4870, 750w psu, 3 x 1tb western digital hdd + 1 x 500gb western digital hdd, running Vista ultimate 64-bit.

Runs flawlessly and was a helluva jump.
