Computer Goons Needed
Ok, so lately I've been getting pop-ups and ---- on my Windows XP. I usually only get these after some PRon sessions, but this time I can't get it to go away.
Usually I run Ad-Ware 6.0, Spybot, and Symantec Corporate Edition. After that everything is fine. This time everytime I click on to the internet my homepage is jacked to some random search page, and this pop up comes up saying that Adware and something don't mesh right. I deleted Ad-ware and updated Symantec and Spybot. Restarted, opened in safemode, ran the scans. It found things in both just like the million other times I've run it this week, and I deleted them. But for the life of me I can't get my homepage to stick, and I can't completely get rid of the pop-ups. Anyone have some trick or magic potion or something? Here's my screen shot on getting on the internet. http://www.newbieforces.com/files/fuckcomputers.JPG |
Re:Computer Goons Needed
If you get really pissed, trying reinstalling internet explorer. That sometimes works, and also scan for Spyware regularly, it can leak onto your computer very quickly.

Re:Computer Goons Needed
When that ---- started happening to me I took my ---- to some dude and paid him $60 to clean my computer. I lost all my pron, but it fiexed that ----. He reinstalled XP and gave me a fresh start.
That ---- really pisses me off. It's like somebody is in your house stealing your money, eating your food and fuking your girl. >:( __________________ Best Car Insurance | Auto Protection Today | FREE Trade-In Quote |

Re:Computer Goons Needed
When my internet is down for weeks at a time and I can't fix it, yes, I will pay $60 to have it fixed. I would have paid alot more than that to tell you the truth. :-\ Computers aren't my thing. Give me a wrench and a big hammer and I'll build a city with it. ;)

Re:Computer Goons Needed
Well, I just had my computer re-done not too long ago. Usually the anti-spyware/virus programs take care of it, but not this time.
Doesn't XP have a feature where you can revert to a previously saved version? Or is there any new updates on this XP ----? This isn't as big of a problem as I've had in the past, it's just something I'm not doing. Maybe a new update or some ----? ??? |
Re:Computer Goons Needed
stevemode go to the barbeque and ill get you these few softwares to block all of that. or download this in this order... nod32 a antivirus, google popup, ad-aware, and spybot, make sure you download these and update after each install. oh and dont forget to update windows...
|
Re:Computer Goons Needed
my only luck getting rid of that crap was to format and re-install, on several computers.
The trick on mine that seemed to work, was when I did re-install I also installed the google toolbar, it blocks pop ups and with it and zero firewall, I have not gotten a single bit of spyware in about 6 months. toolbar.google.com |
Re:Computer Goons Needed
I love my google toolbar. 497 pop-ups blocked and counting. :)

Re:Computer Goons Needed
*EDIT*
Make sure IE is running while you do listdlls. Wo0t! Finally...somethin I'm good at! Download this: http://www.sysinternals.com/ntw2k/fr...listdlls.shtml Save it to C:\ Then, go to Start....Run....cmd and hit OK Type: cd \ and hit enter Then: listdlls > c:\foo.txt It'll just just drop back down to C:\> Then..either paste the text file contents in the forum or email it to me..umm....crap, comcast is down...send it to timh@infogroupnw.com. ---- *What we did* 99.9% of homepage hijackers are "plugins" to IE. These plugins are implemented as DLLs. They attach themselves to IE and are thus run when you fire up IE. So, that list will tell me what bad DLL is attached to IE. From there, we can remove it. However, about:blank is a toughy...it manifests itself a bit deeper -- but we can still remove it. -- Any jackass who charges someone $60 to "fix" their PC by reformatting/reinstalling Windows should have their peepee stuck in a compressor wheel while spooled. It's just a testament to their "skill." For future pr0n sessions...disable ActiveX: Within IE, go to Tools....Internet Options... Then, Security tab...click Custom Level... Scroll down to "Run ActiveX Controls and Plugins" and click Disable. HTH, Tim |

also check I internet Explorer go to TOOLS-->Internet options-->In the section that says "Temporary Internet Options" click on "settings" and then "view Objects" do a screen print with "Alt-Print Screen" and post it up and we will go from there. |
Re:Computer Goons Needed
i know how to fix it, it happend to me. go to start->run-> then type in msconfig. uncheck everything xcept the ---- u need like wireless networking or some shiz. when you boot up pc with nothing starting up but networking and ur systray[little speaker], run and update adaware, then run full system scan then smart system scan. After you are done with that , download this:
http://www.webroot.com/wb/products/w...648&ac=adw09ww [free trial version] when installed and running and into the main screen find the button that sais advanced. then when the options come up click wash items. check pretty much damn near everything. check everything in windows section and ie section and anything else you want. run it and your computer will be clean as a ------ whistle. |
Re:Computer Goons Needed
there was someone on here a while ago that posted how to get rid of the popups through the 'internet options'. I think that was it, it got rid of the pop ups too, and it just so happens that the guy that posted the thread for the pop up help is the same creater of this thread. Damn steve porn owns you!
By the way i got one of those 'homepages' you can't change no matter what you do, I just formatted my pc and reinstalled xp. So far so good. 8) |

Craig, I tried that Hijackthis on my last round of problems. It gave me a list of all kinds of stuff. The problem was I'm not someone that looks through the list and knows what the hell everything is, so I delete everything. That fucked my ---- up more than ever because then I didn't have things I needed. ???
|

It seems like everyone has a different answer. lol.
Tim, are you saying I should see something in C: now? I got caught up on the phone, but I'm interested to get my homepage to stick and get these last pop ups out of here. |
Re:Computer Goons Needed
Go with the Mozilla Firefox....It does fix it...Its by far the best thing out there. It really does work and It will ask you if you want your favorites to come over as well...Pat had that same problem and i tired Spybot and Ad-aware didnt help. Just go with it and it does the trick.

Re:Computer Goons Needed
The biggest problem that is propagating the spyware is a hole in Micro$oft's version of the Java Virtual Machine that allows invisible "fly-by" installs. As suggested before, not using IE and switching to Firefox or Opera is your best bet if you're running windoze, but there are alot of sites that are poorly written and depend on IE. I have about 40 new workstations that I'm rolling out right now and what I did was completely remove the MS JVM and installed SUN's RJE. I tested all the Java apps/pages that my users need and it works great and doesn't have the gaping security holes that the MS versions do.
Another program I find usefull that no one has mentioned yet is BHODemon. It checks for Browser Helper Objects (the .dll's TekPhobia is looking for) and is backed by a constantly updated list to determine which are malicious and which are not. |

Provided you typed the command correctly, then yes, there will be a file in C:\. There ARE spaces in the command: listdlls > c:\foo.txt (there's a space after listdlls, and after >) -Tim |

Re:Computer Goons Needed
As of the time I created these Ghost images with IE 6 about 2 months ago, the MS JVM was installed with IE. I haven't downloaded any new copies of IE since then. When did they stop distributing it with IE?

Re:Computer Goons Needed
prolly with SP2

http://www.microsoft.com/mscorp/java/ Unles you're speaking of Javascript. Cause I know on any recent Windows installations, Java won't work until you get JRE from Sun. -Tim |
Re:Computer Goons Needed
i just reinstall.
|
Re:Computer Goons Needed
That would make sense and would explain why my workstations still had it. I don't plan on installing SP2 until all the bugs are worked out.
