Those symptoms are more in the line of a stroke or heart attack bro. Unless you got nailed in the chest or have been physically punctured, u havent got a collapsed lung

Didn't you make a post a while ago about having health problems and you didn't go to see a doctor?

Until the night before yesterday, i recivied a long distance call from his friend, they said he suddenly lost vision/hearing ability and having a hard time to move he left side of the body. They rush him to a hospital and found a tumor wth 60mm diameter in his brain :-\ , the tumor should be out by now, i am still waiting for calls from my mother and bros who rush back to hongkong last night. Doctor said there`s a chance that he could be parylized afterward :-\ :(

Re: collapsed/punchured lung????

Racin,

Chances are if this has been going on for a while (your chest pain) it may not be pneumothorax or collapse lung. If you are tall, lengthy, white and in your 20-30's, defiantely still think about the collapse lung. Since it sounds like you have been sick lately with running noise etc, chances are you probably have some kind of lung infection, i.e. pneumonia or empyema (which is basically pus in your lung). Do you have any fevers? What other symptoms do you have? Whats your heart rate? Describe more of your chest pain. Is it sharp? Is it localize, meaning does the pain go anywhere else and where is it specifically? Does it hurt more when you take a deep breath or when you are walking around or running around? Have you been using more pillows to sleep at night? Any recent trauma?

These are some of the questions the doc will ask you. Really to pin point what exactly is going on and any other symptoms. My money is on some lung infection such as an empyema or pneumonia, but definately get checked out if its concerned you this much. Also to rule out a pneuothorax or collapse lung is easy... chest x-ray. Easy as that. If you dont catch a pneumothorax early and it is not self-limiting it can become a tension pneumothorax -- this is FATAL if not corrected immediately-- but this usually occurs when people are on respirators or are in some kind of trauma.

Be humble, get some help.

B16Drag, He first noticed his chest pain when he woke up yesterday morning. He feels a little short of breath and it hurts to breathe deeply. He said that when he sneezes (which he is doing about every 10 min or so) he can feel pressure in his right shoulder. No recent trauma and no fevers so far. And usually he doesn't use any pillows when he sleeps. He started vomiting last night at like 11:30 and he has been in bed since then.

Fork, That wasn't a "filthy counter" it was a nightstand that we just inherited from my grandmother. She has had that thing for 25+ years. It is stained not dirty. :S Short of sanding and refinishing it there is nothing that will get those stains off.

Hold on a minute, while I do agree that he need to go to the doctor I see no need to punish myself. And honestly I think girls who use sex or lack of sex in a relationship to get what they want are the biggest type of bitch there is. He is the type of person who won't do things until he is good and ready anyways

But the life insurance idea sounds pretty good :1

Re: collapsed/punchured lung????

from what you are describing it sounds like you have a pneumothorax aka air in your lungs in the apex of your right lung. you really need to get to a doctor to have it fixed, they'll take 2 or possibly 3 xrays to see if thers anything there or not. it can get worse and if you let it go on enough it can be fatal. do you understand that? you could go from having air in your lungs to having a punctured lung, basically your pulmonary sac is torn open by constant friction and rubbing on your ribs and or clavicle.

a second option is you have what is called pleurisy, or, a seperation of the visceral and parietal pleural sac that keeps you lungs contained and allows movement without the pain you are feeling now.

go see a doctor. this is something that will get worse on its own

funny this came to be a topic but i had a collapsed lung a month ago and it ------- hurts.i layed in bed for about 3 hours screaming and crying before i decided to go to the hospial. you can barley breath and coughing hurts even though you can barley cough. it hurts to walk sit or do anything for that matter. the doctor said it collapsed because i am tall and skinny. i would like to ask why do you rely on an automotive fourm for medical advice. i didnt want to go the hospital because i dont have health insurance but after i went i found out there are goverment programs to help with my medical bills. hope you dont have a collapsed lung it cost alot of time not lifting and strining activities.

Re: collapsed/punchured lung????

While we are on the sickness subject today I had some nasty chest pains. It scared me and brought me to my knees. Seriously thinking about quitting smoking.

About 3 weeks ago I got the flu. My kid brought it home from school, wife got it and then I got it. I felt like ---- for a few days then it got a little better. Bad diharea of and on for about a week and had trouble keeping food down. Never threw up though but I definatly could have at any moment I just gutted it out. Thats all gone but now but I get the sneezes and a constant runny nose. My boss thinks its alergies and totaly unrelated as the pollon count has been crazy high lately. When I blow my nose I get boogers and blood every single time. That cant be good but I sort of brushed that off as just being raw from blowing my nose for 2 weeks. Now going into my 3rd ------ week of sneezing and runny nose today I'm not sure wtf was up. I sneezed, blew my nose, got some blood as usual and sneezed some more. Then out of nowhere my chest started to hurt bad! Started out like a muscle cramp in my left pec, then it felt like it was directly in my heart more in the middle. Whole chest got tight, hard time breathing and I went down to my knees. You know how sometimes when you take a drink of soda and it feels like it goes down sideways? Like a huge bubble of soda? Thats how it felt but like my heart tried to pump one huge bubble of blood. Little concerned as I am 30, been under the weather for a few weeks and been smoking since I was 14. I havent told my wife yet but I think I should and maybe go see a doctor.

btw I had 2 uncles who died of a heart attack, never met my grandfather on my dads side due to heart attack and my grandmother on my moms side died of a heart attack. My dad when he was 40 turned into a health nut because he was a high risk and is also now diabetic.

Re: collapsed/punchured lung????

Yeah, I've had some on-again off-again pleuritic condition since I was a little kid. All of a sudden it hurts to breathe in, say, X amount. So I slowly force myself to breathe in X+1 amount... now it doesn't hurt to breathe up to X+1 amount, so I force myself to breathe X+2, etc, until the pain goes away.

Doctors don't really care to hear about it. I think they want me to die.

Racintweek 03-17-2006 07:29 AM

Re: collapsed/punchured lung????

you described my problem exactly. when i start to breat in its fine, but once i get to the point that my chest starts expanding it feels like the ere is a knife thats trying to poke out through my sternum

B16CRXT 03-17-2006 08:47 AM

Re: collapsed/punchured lung????

go get some bloodwork done. You might have high cholesterol. Do you eat a lot of fried food/fast food? You definitely should seea dr. though. I get chest pains when I breathe in too. But its pretty rare when it happens. I do what joseph does until it goes away. Havent had that pain in several months though.

btw: the antihistamine ? was directed at the other guy with allergies...

where is your pain exactly? is it right where the ribs meet up with the sternum?

I hate giving out medical advice over the net... just go see a damn doctor. Go to the "Urgent Care Center" or the local ER. Better to walk into the ER now than being carried into the ER later.

GO SEE A DOCTOR, I had my lungs colapse three times, left side twice and right side once. Its called spontanious pneumothorax, it happens with out having to have any accidents or anything like that.

its behind my sternum. it feels like something is trying to poke through when i take deep breaths. which i have to do often because of my shortness of breath
