Also, with PCs you can download games and high def movies for free. I have tons of ---- in both 720p and 1080p that I didn't pay a cent for. It's called bittorrent. :P

Memory Bandwidth
* 22.4 GB/s memory interface bus bandwidth
* 256 GB/s memory bandwidth to EDRAM
* 21.6 GB/s front-side bus
That's pretty ------- fast memory bandwidth there.
Both systems have 512mb ram. PS3 has 8 cores instead of 3, and yeah they're all 3.2ghz.
Anyway you can't really compare PCs and consoles. For the price, when consoles come out, you cannot build an equally fast performing PC...but games are "free" so it balances out. Consoles aren't running a fully featured operating system in the background that's sucking up resources, nor is it multitasking between applications. They are structured differently, and process ---- differently. Consoles are built to PLAY GAMES and PC components are built for RUNNING APPS. I don't want to hear any ---- "wahh PCs are built for gaming too!" No ----, but consoles are built with the sole purpose of playing games, and so all their components are optimized for playing games, and all the components are put on a single board with ------- high data bus speeds...since it's all "one chip." PCs are built for running software (and gaming) and are more focused towards running software at a fast speed. Their components are interchangeable and the bus speeds aren't as fast as consoles unless you spend money on top of the line ----.
This is a lame argument, get what the hell you want. If you want a good performing platform without spending too much cash, and never have to deal with the headaches PCs cause at times, just go with the console. If you want top of the line performance at higher than 1920x1080 resolution, then go for a PC. I don't play much games anymore myself, but consoles are better "bang for buck." They are mass produced using the same components, and are going to be cheaper, especially since the console manufacturers usually LOSE money on them to sell for cheap.
I'll say I'm wrong when you show me a parts list of the following for under $300 that will perform as well as a 360:
A 3 core processor with each core running 3.2ghz
500mhz video card with 48 shader pipelines
512mb 700mhz GDDR3 ram
12x DVD ROM (yes, cheap)
Motherboard
Case
Fans
Power supply
High quality soundcard
Some sort of bluetooth card for wireless

I don't believe you've ever built a single pc in your existence, considering you average the cost of a pc at $1000-1500.
lettuce consider the following:
80 for a processor & fan
80 for a motherboard
100 for a video card
20 for a case
30 for a power supply
40 for ram
350 =/= 1500
these are even retail prices.. so you need a little software/hardware experience and 350 will get any game you want running.. but what your saying is a $700 PS3 and $80 per game is a better choice? I don't expect you to understand this because you've already failed to recognize it from the start. Have fun with your fanboy personality and I hope you never reproduce for the sake of humanity.

rotflmao you god damned idiot. you're spouting all kinds of ----, yet you intend to game, and have others game on a god damned 2002-2003 era computer.
get a rope
AMD Athlon 64 X2 5000+ Brisbane 2.6GHz - Retail = $129.99
DFI INFINITY NF570 SLI-M2/G AM2 NVIDIA nForce 570 SLI - Retail = $109.99
2x 1g sticks of BallistiX = $54.99 (-$50 mail in rebate)
$250 for a blue-ray drive, no burn = $250 ($350 for a burner)
LITE-ON Black 20X burner = $27.99
SAMSUNG SpinPoint T Series HD252KJ 250g = $64.99
PNY GeForce 8800GT = $269
SIGMA ORCA-WBP Black SECC w' 400w $29.99 ($59.99 - $30 rebate)
1g USB flash drive = $0, free with case
Guess what moron we're at $935 bucks without shipping/tax right off the bat. No monitor, no input devices, no speakers... Anything with a brain ontop of what we already have would take on:
SB0570LPVP Audigy $26.99 (because even today's intigrated sucks)
another DVD burner $27.99 (only newbs have one drive...)
a CORSAIR Flash Voyager 2GB Flash Drive = $19.99 (vista loves readyboost & the faster the drive the better, and flashdrives own bios upgrades and slim backup OS installs...)
Another 2g of BallistiX $54.99 (because it'll be afew years down the road until equivilant chips fall to $50, only ---- chips are $50 right now...)
Might aswell buy an OEM Vista home premium disk since they're down to $100 give or take...
So stop spouting your sub $500 low quality used ebay bullshit. That builds nothing but an obsolete asstastic computer like yours that can't outright own a game from the last 2 years.

Re: cod4 ?
lets agree pcs will always have more power, and better graphics and be all around more powerful... they will cost more to do it.
xbox and ps3 are purpose built, and the graphics really aren't cutting edge but they are good.
are far as i can tell the xbox and ps3 will be out of date before a top of the line pc would be.
if you bought a top of the line pc back when the first xbox came out, you could still play todays games easily. but the xbox can't play 360 games.
hardware performance is advancing far far far far faster than software

Re: cod4 ?
ugh a top of the line PC does about 3 years TOPS for gaming while the industry standard for console generations is 5 years. An absolute top of the line PC 3 years ago would have had:
single core 3.2ghz P3 / Athlon 64 FX51 (2.2ghz)
1g ram
Radeon 9800 XT / gf FX 5700 Ultra
All of which ended their gaming usefulness last year, and would have been a 2grand computer to build at the time of being built.
seriously i always use to like PC gaming, but it's an idiotic thing to invest a computer to do. its such a waste of money. you can either pay your grand up front building a mid-tier computer that must be ugpraded every year and a half-two years, or you can pay alot more and *maybe* get three years out of it tops.

Re: cod4 ?
anyways, the point is if you plopped down $300 for a ps2 in 2000, it was still playing the newest avalible games in 2005 (360 came out), and still has atleast sports games coming out for it now almost in 2008!
If you pay $250-300 for a 360, or $300-400 for a ps3 today you'll still be playing new games in 2010.
unlike even building just the hardware for a newer used parts ebay PC on a $500 budget. which wouldn't lpay 2006 games well, and would be unplayable for games 2007+.
console = good investment, PC = stupid investment. that's my point.
