Civic DX or Cavalier Z24

Hey everyone. I have a question to ask. I currently have a 1997 Chevrolet Cavalier Z24 w/ auto transmission and I was thinking about a turbo setup for it, however, my friend is selling his 1993 Honda Civic DX (5 speed manual Transmission) for a fairly good price. What I'm wondering is, Should I keep my Cavalier and turbocharge it, or sell it and get the civic? Thanks.

The civic will be easier to turbocharge and parts are easier to find. There have been a million more turbo civics than turbo cavs.

I'd boost the z24, they respond well to boost and I have heard that the auto trannys are much stronger than the manual transmissions and can handle more of a beating. Theres a few j-body guys on here, try messaging them...

having first hand experience with both, i say junk the cavy.

its not that the car is any harder to turbo than a civic, its just the fact that the cars are cheap pieces of ----, the trannys blow, and the shifting is mad notchy, the engine management is really limited to megasquirt for any real performance, and the cars are heavy.

petes cavy made a ---- ton of tq, and went pretty good at 10 psi, way bettere than any d series honda ive ridden in, although it should, the bitch is a 2.4.

that being said, the power it did make seems that much more less impressive.

overall, price wise, and ---- its about the same to turbo it, but the cavy is just heavier, cheaply made, and gayer. not to mention you have less options

I'd go w/the civic. Theres just so many parts out there and you can't argue w/uberdata. If you blow your engine the D is so cheap, everyone has 'em laying around and there really easy to swap out.

yeah coming form a long time jbody owner get rid of the cav they are some of the biggest pieces of ---- and the trannys are ok deff better than a hoinda auto tranny and they also make a shift kit for the gm getrag tranny but i would still get the civic way more options down the road

Thanks guys, I really appreciate the advice. I don't think I'll have a lot of money to put a B series motor in the civic, but If I were to get it, what motor should I get SOHC vtec or DOHC non VTEC?

Re: Civic DX or Cavalier Z24

Be honest w/your self whether or not you have $$ to swap a B and then turbo or just turbo the D. You don't wanna get the B, run outta $$ when you could gone turbo D for possibly less cash. But if you do have the $$ I'd go DOHC, just don't blow it up ;)

get the civic and turbo d, if that or when it blows up than do a swap or build the d and run more boost
