I built the computer I'm running right now, and the last one I built ran for 7 years until it melted(removed the cpu fan...). If you can build an engine or work on a car then you can build a comp, it's really plug and play, just different plugs...

dell is definately NOT the best thing that has happened into the computer world. But like Will said, if you try to find the best prices from whatever shop and assemble a computer on your own to the same specs as the dell, you'll only save probably like 50-100 bux but look at the time that took you to build it, waiting for it, researching the product, etc. You also have to pay for shipping and taxes.. blah blah blah. Bottomline its a hassle if its just for a $500 system. I would only build another computer again if it was for a $2000+ system. Even then I'd have to think about it. I've built enough computers to realize that Dell is the way to go or a preassembled system is the way to go. Stay FAR away from HP and Compaq and those damn "e" computer ----...

back in the day I built a pentium 2 for 500 (i was 13 just to show you how easy it was) and they were selling for 1200 and up... You can get year old processors, year of mb's and the such for dirt cheap and spend the rest on other cards. Depends really on what your freind wants, you could build a slow *** pos for under 200.
