CenterForce Dual Friction VS Clutch Specialties

I have a turbo sohc vtec setup and I need a new clutch. I plan to put down 210-220whp once I get the clutch in and get tuned. I was planning on getting the Dual Friction but recently I found out about Clutch Specialties. I was wondering if any of you guys have heard of this clutch and how you guys feel about it. I am not even sure what kind of clutches they make so if anyone can tell me what Clutch Specialties clutch they reccomend, estimated power it will hold, and the price.

thanx in advance

After seeing the Dual Friction in action, I'm not impressed. I wouldn't waste my money on that clutch. I expected some serius grab out of a clutch named "Dual friction" but it's just not that badass.

Re:CenterForce Dual Friction VS Clutch Specialties

Act XT/SS is another good choice ;)

I put a centerforce setup in a dsm once and it the pressure plate spring broke... maybe it was just a fluke, but i'd never recommend them again.

Clutch specialities is pretty good, only used their D-series on one setup, and I thought the pressure plate was a touch on the weak side. However Me, Beau and Leia all run their Duel diaphram pressure plate on our B/H series setups, they work excellent.

Clutch Specialities hands down.... i own one, push 15psi, and it takes it on my sohc VEE-TECK.

Re:CenterForce Dual Friction VS Clutch Specialties

I had a Centerforce clutch in my car and the Throw out bearing broke 2 months after beeing installed..

And before it ate ---- 3 months ago it was making a ---- load of noise in neutral ( all the springs on the disc were loose)

IN my opinion they arent worth whatever the hell they cost... just get one from MIKE CRX88 or whatever his SN is....

Re:CenterForce Dual Friction VS Clutch Specialties

centerfore doesn't make there own pressure plates they just put wieghts on a luc or sachs or watever. They are stock plates painted orange. I do belive they make there own discs though.O and they dont make through out bearings :P

Re:CenterForce Dual Friction VS Clutch Specialties

You can get a sprung or unsprung 6 puck. The sprung is supposed to have a smoother engaugement, but from the members opinions here, the sprung and unsprung seem to be the same. I had one on my D-series with 235hp/222tq and I never even thought about the clutch failing. It grabs like a mofo.
The only complaint that anyone has ever had is that there is a slight vibration when trying to ease from a stop to go. With these clutches it has less of a "middle ground" of on or off than a stock clutch.
A stock clutch you can ease it out and the car slowly moves forward and you can get rolling a pretty good speed before letting out the clutch completely. With these clutches, you will have that half clutch work just like a stock one, but once you hit about 5mph, if you still have the clutch half way out the car will vibrate. That's the only thing that you will notice with this clutch vs. a stock one. And the fact that it will take pretty much anything that you can throw at it and laugh. Price vs. what you get you won't find anything better. 88turbocrx sells them.

yeah i run an unsprung one... no probs, the pedal pressure is just a tad stiffer than stock, 10lbs on mini me set up...

i beat it up and don't even have to think about the clutch.

best part is the price!

thats odd, I was told the sprung and non-sprung discs use the exact pressure plate. They dont feel very stiff to me, ask mike if you could get a upgraded pressure plate, like a duel diaphram version.

Yeah, i'm sure that bolth the sprung and unsprung use the same pressure plate. i was commenting on why i liked the clutch pedal pressure. I personally thought that the CS clutch is a tad stiffer than stock but not as stiff as my brothers ACT, happy medium for me. i don't make enough HP to run anything heavier.

i didn't know that Mike also offered the duel diaphram version too. hmmm... just curious, how much more was it? and driving impression.

i havn't dynoed my car yet, but my guess is somewhere in the low 200whp range. i got it from 88turbocrx (mike) about a year ago. I think i paid something like... 240-250 shipped.

Re:CenterForce Dual Friction VS Clutch Specialties

The pressure plate on the puck ones are a bit soft, but they take the abuse well...If you get a organic disk clutch from him you will get another pressure plate...maybe dual diaphram
Cause he told me you can get a 225lb/ft and a 300 lb.ft Clutch kit that has a organic sprung disk..I guess the 225 lb.ft has the same p.plate as the puck's and the 300 one that grabs harder so that the organic disk can hold the power down.
I just ordered one for a friend of mine ...

HMT-Admin 01-30-2005 04:19 PM

Re:CenterForce Dual Friction VS Clutch Specialties

I was making 300ish whp on a stock disc.. its all in the pressure plate. The ACT XT pressure plate with a stock disc is pretty damn good.

Re:CenterForce Dual Friction VS Clutch Specialties

im running a dual diaphram on a 6 puck sprung... overkill i know but at least she wont slip and its not that hard to drive, the 3 puck unsprung i had with a regular pp was awful to drive

Re:CenterForce Dual Friction VS Clutch Specialties

well it looks like ill be getting the 6puck sprung but whats this about the dual diaphram ??
how much power can a 6puck and the dual diaphram hold ??

accordepicenter 01-30-2005 05:57 PM

Re:CenterForce Dual Friction VS Clutch Specialties

2x the tq of the single diaphram... double the pedal pressure also

BlackCRX 01-31-2005 02:02 AM

Re:CenterForce Dual Friction VS Clutch Specialties

how much more for the dual diaphram ??

Re:CenterForce Dual Friction VS Clutch Specialties

i had a act xtss in my built mini me. thing handled 16 or 17 psi of rapings daily with no slipage.

i had a 3 punk exedy sprung sersmetallic in my b18b. i was so so on it, unfortunately, i didnt get to see how it handled boost, as my hatch was stolen....

at any rate, the gsr, will be seeing a act xt/ss

You'll never need a dual diaphram. It'll just complicate things.

Mike shipped it to me, I'm in canada, Make sure he ships it via USPs not UPS, otherwise UPS will rape your ass on service charges

Centerforce isn't all that good. Once it's glazed it just doesn't recover. Mine was acting like a torque converter sometimes, stalling at 5000rpms before I pulled the engine out of the car for some maintenance and a new clutch.

most organic clutches can be glazed pretty nasty

actually does anyone know what material the d series 6puck spung hub is made out of ??

accordepicenter 01-31-2005 09:00 PM

Re:CenterForce Dual Friction VS Clutch Specialties

copper ceramic. They dont glaze (as far as i know) and are resistant to slipping if they get contaminated with oil or some other lubricant, unlike organics
