They both suck!
BUT
The focus has ignition cylinder issuses, I have towed many where the key just won't turn anymore and the springs like to break.
Neons are gay I hate them.
Buy an old rolla or camry

I'd have to pick a Focus. I don't really mind the looks of them too much. I've seen some low mileage Focus's with horrible engine noise and serious issues, but I've also seen the same in Neons. They are both ---- IMO, but the Focus gets my vote.
My boss bought a ~2000 Neon for his daughter brand new. It has around 75k miles on it now, religous oil changes and maintanence, and runs like a pile of ****. The wife has been driving it as a beater to save miles on her DD for the past couple of years so it hasn't seen any hard driving and still came up with issues long before 100k.
