Canadians and USPS

Got a question for you Canadians out there and people that deal with them.

This is regarding shipping to Canada via USPS and duty fees. So if I ship a package to Canada, no matter what value I put on it there will be no duty fees?

I have something to ship to Canada with a value of 500, I want insurance on it, since well it's USPS. But if there's gonna be a large duty fee I don't want him to have to pay it.

Lemme know guys.

I just had about 90 pounds of parts sent to me from texas to ontario and got bent over for 300 bucks in god knows---------what fees. It was shipped 4-6 days (150 bucks american) and customs held it for like an extra week. Still cheaper then ups though that ---- would have cost me acout 900 at my door. Nazis.

I always request shipping w/ USPS, never lost a package and never get charged duty fee's. If i do and it was marked as a gift i can file and get money back. (which i did once).

bingo.

Because the package changes hands from USPS to Canada Post at the boarder, then Canada Post delivers the package. Same goes the other way, sending something from Canada to the States, Canada Post handles the package until it gets to the boarder, then USPS takes the package and delivers it to their client.

Shipping companies like UPS which are INTERNATIONAL usually don't need to hand the package off to someone else because they're located internationally.

Use your heads guys! ::)

Note you can't have a box that has USPS proirity tape on it to ship to canada. They gave me a different box at the post office when I shipped out crx88si's harness's. How long does it take shipping ---- to canada eh?

Re:Canadians and USPS

problem is I wanna insure it just incase, and would like to have $500.oo insurance on it.

So from what I am absorbing from the responces on here, no matter what value I put it as (in this case $500.oo), just as long as I mark it as a gift there will be no duty fees.

Yep!

if you do get charged duty fee's and it IS marked gift you can send it to canada customs and they will refund the money.

Im so glad I found this thread

Im about to get a block shipped to me from Jersey from a member, about $800 worth of parts.

I should ask him to ship it USPS? Will they take blocks?

And on the sticker/form he can mark it as a gift and I wont pay anything?

When I bought my ------- head it was $400 and I payed $140 canadian at the door, I was pissed.

Thanks
