ProE is hardcore. And not something i've dealt with. Pretty much everyone I know uses Solidworks, which is quite user friendly and makes the transition from 2D to 3D much easier then Autocad.

I'd definitely go for solidworks, but don't have experience of the other CAD packages.

Pro E is what i used at work so i am just used to it. A license can run 40k with all the bells and whistles. I was going to buy the student edition but its pretty limited and it says "Student Edition" on all of the drawings.

i use solidworks on a daily basis, we build 300k wet process bench's for the semiconductor industry made out of plastic, and some out of stainless. solidworks, solidedge, and proE are the 3 most common in my industry...autocad is to far behind when it comes to 3d design.
