Just make sure you don't have some sort of download limit, otherwise if you start downloading movies, you're in trouble soon.

other houses stil share the same cable wire.

Re:Cable Or DSL?
DSL can outperform cable but that comes at a price. You pay for speed. The advantage is most DSL providers give a min of 256k upload some only 128k. Most cable is capped at 128k up but has a faster download speed usualy in the 3mb (3000k) speed range. Your basic 30-50 dollar dsl service will be a max download of 512k. The faster download speed the higher the costs. DSL is dedicated so no you should not get any "lag" or slowdowns during high traffic times. Cable is shared with those in your area meaning your entire neighborhood. This area could be block or a few miles in circumfrence. It depends on your population and the server networking. Also do you plan on playing any online internet games? If you answered yes then choose cable. With online games, especialy twitch type like first person shooters, you want the lowest ping possible. Cable will always ping lower than DSL. I don't feel like explaining ping so just trust me on this. Another way to change your feelings is do you have cable TV? Some people are on Direct TV and sattelite so of course DSL would be their choice. You have to atleast pay for basic cable service to have cable internet.
Price vs Speed = Cable > DSL
Reliability at peek hours = DSL > Cable
Overall speed at a higher cost = DSL > Cable
Online gaming = Cable > DSL
Price vs Speed = Cable > DSL
Reliability at peek hours = DSL > Cable
Overall speed at a higher cost = DSL > Cable
Online gaming = Cable > DSL

Re:Cable Or DSL?
had both...cable sucked wrinkly goat *****, gave it back in a week. I've had DSL eversince, no probs. when I had cable it was ONLY fast during the afternoons, when no one was home....come 7-8:00pm....it was worse than 56k but that was when Comcast first came out with cable internet, so maybe its different now...but I'm more than happy with my DSL
