The Charger was practically designed to be a police cruiser. Roomy, big trunk for gear, decent power to weight to price. There hasn't been a better police cruiser design made in almost forty years.

They aren't using the Charger with the 3.5 in it, are they? It's a decent motor that gets good gas mileage, but it can't push that tank around very fast. I can see kids in mildly modded Kia's outrunning cops in your hood. :S

You could do it but you will probably have to hold onto it for a long time. Also I would look at why they are tanking, it wasn't over night that they failed along with GM, it will take a long time to change consumer perception about their cars. Also there is a saying "don't try to catch a falling knife" , it wouldn't hurt to wait and see some evidence of their turn around before you start to buy, you won't get the best deal that way but you won't get burned either.

Stay away from GM, not really up on Ford but I am sure they are not much better, the government cannot stop them from going under, they can only try to slow them down. They are losing something like 15 billion a month, people talk about how crysler was bailed out back in the 70's and how they turned a profit, well gues how they did that? by inventing the Minivan.

Also look at their pension obligations and how much it costs to insure their debt, the reason they can't declare bankrupcy is because they will bankrupt their insurance companies: http://www.bloomberg.com/apps/news?p...d=a6QTsj05Md04

Anyway you could roll the dice and buy some stock but i doubt you will see a return, and if it does go up you better be ready to sell it fast, the market isn't stupid and the government dumping money into it will only cause the price to go up for a short period of time.

If your gonna invest in anything right now on your own, I would put it in people who make solar panels, windmills, ---- of that nature. I believe alternative sources for energy is about to be a huge deal in '09.

The big 3 automakers is just to much of a risk at the moment for me. I understand a lot of things are a risk right now, but I dont think I would even consider ford, gm or chrysler.

That would be called a "HEMI" and I don't think they idle on 4 cylinders. :P I would be shocked to find out they actually have 3.5 police cruisers. The 3.5 is slow as piss in the LX platform.

All the local police Chargers are 6 cylinders. I have no idea about the troopers.

I have seen under the hood of the local 5-0 and its a v-8 no doubt about it. This sucks now I have to try and get a picture of under the hood. To show what they got. I also don't know if its a hemi

I'm not saying other places don't have the V8 cars, I'm just saying local PDs have V6. There was a big stink a few years back about 8-10 cops chasing one car at high speed, bunch of wrecks, bunch of property damage. The official policy is now no more than two officers in pursuit, at speeds not to exceed 85 mph (or something?). They definitely aren't going for anything with power... APD tried some LT1 Camaro "intercept" vehicles in '97 and all that happened to those is they were wrecked nine or ten times each, within two years the front ends on them were visibly misaligned.
