Buying A car with no title!!!!

Hey I just wanted to know has anyone ever bought a car with no title? I just bought a 87 crx si with no title. I made a contract that listed all the car information and all his personal information, and the price which I bought it for and he signed it at the bottom. I live VA and the guy also lives here in VA but he bought the car in Florida and he brought it up here and he never registered it and he lost the title. All I want to know if its complicated to get the title and the registration?

No....but I sold one without a title. ::)

I'm assuming you can file for a lost title as long as the registered owner doesn't want it back. ;)

It's almost impossible for you to get a title by yourself, even with a bill of sale. You need to have the last titled owner to apply for a duplicate title, then sign it over to you. If the guy bought it from florida never got the title, then you need to go back one owner further. I know cause i did the same thing in pa and i've been calling the last owner in florida every week for the past 3-5 months trying to get a new title. DON'T DO IT

ye, its gonnna be a tough one.

i dunno about in va, but in florida, they would tell u to go back to the guy u bought it from and have him apply for a replacement title. if he cant find the guy he bought from, its gonna take a while, especially since its from another state. then. once he get the title, he can transfer it to you.

good luck

Find a car that is absolutely falling apart, same year as the one in question. Transfer that title to yourself and swap vins. This is a crime, but noone really cares.

A buddy of mine bought a CRX in WI without a title. It took him over a year to get the new title. :o Every state is different so give it a shot, it might be easier than everybody thinks. 8)

Some states like RI for a car over 10 yrs old you don't need a title, you can register the car for legal street use with a bill of sale. You'll have to check out your state.
