Buying A car with no title!!!!
Hey I just wanted to know has anyone ever bought a car with no title? I just bought a 87 crx si with no title. I made a contract that listed all the car information and all his personal information, and the price which I bought it for and he signed it at the bottom. I live VA and the guy also lives here in VA but he bought the car in Florida and he brought it up here and he never registered it and he lost the title. All I want to know if its complicated to get the title and the registration?

No....but I sold one without a title. ::)
I'm assuming you can file for a lost title as long as the registered owner doesn't want it back. ;) __________________ Best Car Insurance | Auto Protection Today | FREE Trade-In Quote |

It's almost impossible for you to get a title by yourself, even with a bill of sale. You need to have the last titled owner to apply for a duplicate title, then sign it over to you. If the guy bought it from florida never got the title, then you need to go back one owner further. I know cause i did the same thing in pa and i've been calling the last owner in florida every week for the past 3-5 months trying to get a new title. DON'T DO IT

Re:Buying A car with no title!!!!
ye, its gonnna be a tough one.
i dunno about in va, but in florida, they would tell u to go back to the guy u bought it from and have him apply for a replacement title. if he cant find the guy he bought from, its gonna take a while, especially since its from another state. then. once he get the title, he can transfer it to you. good luck |

Find a car that is absolutely falling apart, same year as the one in question. Transfer that title to yourself and swap vins. This is a crime, but noone really cares.

A buddy of mine bought a CRX in WI without a title. It took him over a year to get the new title. :o Every state is different so give it a shot, it might be easier than everybody thinks. 8)

Some states like RI for a car over 10 yrs old you don't need a title, you can register the car for legal street use with a bill of sale. You'll have to check out your state.

Correctamundo.
But back to topic, check with the state, but to be safe I'd say dont buy it. |
Re:Buying A car with no title!!!!
I bought my car with a Salvage title from a junkyard.
All did was kept the bill of sale and scheduled an inspection date with the state patrol and they cleared my title. all they do is check the vin #, milage and things wrong with the car, damage etc. If you have replaced anything on the car before you go to the inspection. make sure you have the recite for it. then all they do is input all the info onto record. they ask you bout da car, options it has and model etc.. This is in WA though, I dont know how it works in other States. |

Re:Buying A car with no title!!!!
Why do we see the same topics over and over? And why do people ask questions on a site where the chance is little to none that anyone will have a correct answer? You need to get your ass to the DMV, son, they can answer your questions.
Oh yeah, I may as well save you some time... I didn't really see one correct answer yet so here it goes. In a situation like yours, you need to : - have the dmv do a NCIC check (see if it's stolen) - have the dmv do a VIN inspection - have them look up the last registered owner (if the title's from florida, you need to contact florida dmv to do this) - send a letter, certified mail, to the last registered owner to explain what you're doing, and ask them for help (usually they won't respond, but all you need is a unopened certified letter proving you at least tried to contact the person) - buy a surety bond (or lost title bond, same thing) from a licensed bond company. This usually costs $50. Take all this stuff in to your dmv, and they'll give you a title. Bingo. EDIT: rx7tostarion is the winner ding ding ding ding ding ding ;D |

I have a 91 STD hatch with no title, needs an engine, bumper fenders and hood. Anyone wants it!!!!
I was going to get it running to sell it, but the title problems just stopped that plan. I might just part it out. |
