built ls with t3/t4 now *updated w/PICS*

It's been a while (and i'll post pics soon).. my civic was off the road for 2.5 months because I spun all the bearings in it due to the stupid oil releif valve jamming. Anyways, here's the specs:

98 LS motor bored to 81.5mm
Probe Industries forged pistons 8.7:1 c/r
Eagle H beam rods
micro polished crank
new bearings all around
b16 oil pump
ls oil gear with gsr oil pan
stealthmode oil lines
t3/t04e turbo mated to a log manifold
tial 35mm wastegate
overblownms intercooler
2.5" charge pipes the whole way
2.5" down pipe
pro clutch stage 3 ceremic clutch
2.25" cat back exhaust with a 2.5" cat. converter
450cc dsm injectors
1st gen dsm bov
uberdata

I wish i knew how well this setup worked, I broke the motor in n/a, and put the turbo kit on it yesterday afternoon. I don't know why yet, but the stupid thing isn't building any boost at all and I can't hear the turbo spooling. When the turbo was off it spun freely. I haven't checked yet, but i'm hoping it's just a coupler that isn't on right.

I'll keep you updated and try to get some video going.

Well, I figured out why I'm not getting any boost. The nut holding the impeller came off somehow and went down in the turbo!!

Here you can see the fin that got bent from the nut... where the nut is, I have no idea. Couldn't find it in the charge pipes. Anyone know what size nut holds these on?? a 10mm wouldn't fit, it was larger than that.

the nut maybe in your intercooler;you should find the nut before you start that car again :-\

Re:built ls with t3/t4 now

I looked in the end tanks, it wasn't in there. And I just broke off part of the fin trying to straighten the bent fin out.. damnit.

did you ---- with the turbo when you got it? if not I'd get a return on it since whoever sent it to you is a moron for not tightening that nut.

stan that car of urs is full of bad luck

sorta like mine

Re:built ls with t3/t4 now

I would guess the turbo has gay threads (counter-clockwise tightens) so finding a nut that fits is impossible.

Wasn't that one of those SS auto turbo's too? Maybe I'm wrong.

haha, yeah thats the only reason I remember that was because you had one too Doc and Stan was asking a while back if they were any good. Ah well. I've been running a Shwitzer T3T4 hybrid for a while now with no problems. I have to admit though I liked my last T3 (.48/.60) better on my LS. Seemed to be a great street turbo.

Stan 09-05-2004 07:41 PM

Re:built ls with t3/t4 now

Yup, it's an ssautojunk turbo, but I don't think it's their fault that the nut backed off. I never noticed, but I don't think the threads are backwards?? atleast I hope not!

Anyone have a wheel for sale that will fit this turbo? ----, I was a stupid idiot when I traded my friend my brand new .63/.60 for this ssautojunk t3/t04e. Mind you, i've seen the same turbo on another car make 196whp and 190 trq at 6psi.

Are torques (spelling?) threaded backwards??

Stan

Re:built ls with t3/t4 now

Do you mean like a Torx bit? It's like a star shape? I'm confused as to what part you are reffering to.

the bolt most likly went out the turbo ( if you dont have a filter.)

I do have a filter and I have no clue where the nut went. ??? ??? ???

well well well... look what I found under the car!!

I'm half drunk and it's a gravel driveway, but look what I found.. :)
You can see the piece I broke off the fin trying to make it straight.. now, just need to get it aluminum welded and it'll be good as new! Props to turbo90accord4dr for the idea to look for the nut.

Re:built ls with t3/t4 now

You can't weld up that aluminum on the fin. That thing is rotating at like 90234857290529 rpms. If it's a little out of balance you're screwed.

You're gonna have to buy a new wheel.

HMT-Admin 09-06-2004 12:41 PM

Re:built ls with t3/t4 now

lol, I'd just straighten up the fins the best you can and put it back together, lol.. otherwise you are going to need to get a new wheel.

Stan 09-06-2004 02:31 PM

Re:built ls with t3/t4 now

I tried to straighten the fin and it broke off. I have no idea where to get a wheel for this thing, it's an ssautojunk turbo. I imagine that all t4 wheels are different?

Anyone have one they can mail me? ;)

turboDA6 09-06-2004 02:34 PM

Re:built ls with t3/t4 now

1 some what broken fin can't make the whole wheel crap would it? it would still create boost.. i say throw it back in till u get a new wheel lol.. may not create its potential power but better then not driving it at all for now...

TurboTibby 09-06-2004 02:36 PM

Re:built ls with t3/t4 now

I would clean up the broken fin as best as I can. Square it off so you can get a better judge of size. Then I would break off a piece exactly the same size on the opposite side of the turbine. Use a micrometer to make your measurements. Good luck!

Stan 09-06-2004 02:40 PM

Re:built ls with t3/t4 now

I did put it back on. It spins but it sounds like a rock is going in there, then the blades stop spinning... then they spin all over again. I think I might have gotten 0.25 psi boost, but that's about it. And the drag races were this weekend, but I doubt i'll be able to get my hands on a t3 by then. :'(

The sad part is that I just put a 1st gen dsm valve on it and i'll never get to hear what it sounds like.

I'm gonna go take pics of my setup right now just to hold you guys over until I find another turbo.

ya just get another wheel. its going to be out of balance and it will just end up ruining the rest of the turbo. can u still return it?

Re:built ls with t3/t4 now

No, I traded my friend my t3 .63/.60 for this t3/t4.. stupid mistake on my part. Anyone have a spare .42/.48 for sale that I can keep as a backup turbo?

That's all for now.. I'll post video if someone can hook me up with a cheapy t3 in good shape or a t4 compressor wheel to fit this t3/t4!

save your money and go with a nice big turbo... precision sc61 or something of the sort.

Stan 09-06-2004 07:26 PM

Re:built ls with t3/t4 now *updated w/PICS*

I'd love to get one, but those are mega expensive aren't they?

Anyways, I need a turbo for Saturday.. I doubt i'll be able to find one (unless someone on here can express mail me one!!!) for the races this weekend. Brand new motor and no turbo, damn.

stan the man, the cars lookin awsome

have you tried emailing the guy at ssauto about the wheel. im sure he could get you another one. or is it that you need it a.s.a.p.

Stan 09-06-2004 07:47 PM

Re:built ls with t3/t4 now *updated w/PICS*

I need it asap, but it looks like the seals in the turbo are fucked too.. ugh, I just have bad luck with turbos. I traded a guy my t3 .63/.60 which I just put a brand new center section in for this fucked t3/t04e. I'm not happy. >:(
