Re: Build me a Gaming PC!!!

939 may be dead, but its hard to argue w/ a dual core Opteron165 & decent mobo combo (one that can hit 300fsb) from Newegg for around $220.
I recently set one of those up and with the current 165's that they are shipping, It hit 315*9 (2835mhz) at stock voltage and stock HSF. It did 2925 w/ more vcore, but wasnt prime stable after a few hrs.
I used an MSI nf4 motherboard, (built 3 diff. systems w/ that board, all OC'd, and no problems yet)

With the Opteron OC'd it benched around FX62 area. Pretty solid $$$/performance IMHO.

And as far as MSI being pieces of ----, Ive used a total of about 7 mobo's over the years, and have yet to have any failures. All of my builds are OC'd to the max stable limit as well.

IMO, avoid s939, its old, not going to get anything new. get a geforce 6150 based mATX main board which uses onboard video until you can afford a good card (and its better than ATi's!), it uses socket AM2 AND s939, just pick the model w/ AM2 :)

haha my bad..wasnt paying attention and was pricing out an am2 system at the same time for someone else...

by no means do i claim to be a "computer expert", just dealt with a lot of companies...and when i was starting out, i would have loved to hear people complain about companies that i used and made some shitty choices on my first build

Also, the MSI that i had that really burned me was an early 939 as well...memory compatibility sucked, board was laid out very poorly, and poorly developed bios

For motherboards i've always been an asus and abit man, and surprisingly enough, ive had really good luck with chaintech boards, which are real cheap...altho wouldnt reccomend them for anything except for a real budget pc

About NEC drives...They were fantastic..ultra fast, reliable, cheap...i have one in my personal computer, however lately they have not stayed up to par with their name. if i could get the older drives, id use them in a second

I agree very strong with the antec statements from crx88si...very solid cases, very solid powersupplies. The setup i provided was assuming you weren't gonna go crazy with a video card. The powersupply in the asus barebone will not handle a real highperformance card. the cases i think are of equal quality.
