Bring slicks, not excuses

http://www.fourgasmmotorsports.com/SLICKS.JPG Got me a set of these, Lenso VPD 13x7.5" (rim and tire weighs like 20lb) and M&H Racemaster 22x8x13 slicks. What do you think my 60 fts are gonna be in the turboaccord with a good launch with these (im thinking 1.8s maybe 1.7 if i set them up good?) Bring slicks, not excuses

those are sweet how much did they set you back?

Re: Bring slicks, not excuses

$465 but the tires only had 3 passes on them (new). You can get the rims and tires new for around 600

you definatly wont cut any 1.7's with 22's on an accord, it will probably even be hard to hit a 1.8. it will definatly be fun tho.

Re: Bring slicks, not excuses

i might have to go to 23s or 24.5

Re: Bring slicks, not excuses

too small for 1.7's...1.8's probably...definitely go up to a 24.5 when those are done, but hey, least you got the wheels now right?

ohhh there will be vids, RENR. Im not really sure Fook, id be pretty happy with 1.8s if i can pull them consistantly.

They look great.Whatever 60 you can cut will still be 100 times better than last season.Your all seasons or whatever you had in the vids were awesome :-X

I've hit 1.7's on MT 20" slicks.

Slicks are sized based on gear ratios the the final MPH that you want to hit. do not just pick 24.5 because they are "big". :8 If you do the math, the quarter-mile-too-good-to-be-true guys will almost always have the perfect size slicks. :6

Generally, you want to hit the rev limit in 4th right after you are crossing the line. the 22" slicks probably end up working quite well for an Accord under 110mph??

Ouch!! Man my 24.5" with ZERO passes for 200.00 was a steal!! I can still get Lenso's ( no going to) and be cheaper!!!

They do look nice though!

Yeah i had cooper cobras aired down (bout 15psi) 195-60-14 and the car kept them lit until about 60mph... couldnt hook up at all. Was running 13.7-13.8 with 2.4-2.5 60 fts. Im hoping with these and a better tune (have some more parts to install) i can break into the 12s on a good run. I was running thru the traps in 4th gear but my 4th gear is pretty big and it goes to like 130mph ish

90dx 03-16-2006 07:00 PM

Re: Bring slicks, not excuses

Nice you should def be able to break a 12 now :yWhat all are you adding?

Re: Bring slicks, not excuses

gonna try an electric water pump drive (moroso). Oh yeah, i usually run with my PS belt off, (i didnt do it for the 13.7 passes etc) in my experience its usually worth 2 tenths consistantly. I also have methanol water injection that im going to use and run slightly more agressive ignition timing on a better tune (car is untuned). Im going to run an AEBS intake manifold for a B16A/B18C5 and a bigger throttle body, i can use it on an A20 because the ports in the head and intake fit perfectly but the top bolts in the flange need to be redrilled, thats it (pretty easy) Oh yeah, sooner or later this season im gonna switch to OBD1, im still using the SAFC and BTM (teh SAFC is NOT a good idea on 13psi boost). ----, come to think of it, the car might run deep into the 12s, possibly low 12s? I got some work to do now

i don't think i can run slicks with my because i wanted 13 or 14 slicks but the rims wont clear my brakes i dont think. 15s or better any options for me? not to thread jack

accordepicenter 03-17-2006 09:27 AM

Re: Bring slicks, not excuses

i was looking around and the lenso VPD's are one of the only handful of 13" wheels that will fit say a GSR or civic si or somthing without using spacers and having clearance problems. So hopefully they should fit my accord even though i have pretty good sized brakes on it (havent tried, its in storage). I was thinking about running 15s also but the slicks are more expensive in 15s and they dont have the traction that the 13s do in the same width/height because they have less sidewall and less wrinklewall action, less of a footprint when you air them down also.

Diamond Racing Wheel will make something with a good enough offset too. they will only be 45.00 for a 13" 13lb rim that is 13"x7" with a 1-4" back space. Lensos are 13"x7.5" with a 5" back.

what do you mean by backspace? e.g.5" backspace on a 7.5" wheel = 2.5 front of hub and 5 behind? i just need to know if i get 13 or 14 inch lenso's or diamond racing wheels will they clear my 11 brakes and nsx calipers

Are you serious? That seems REALLY high just for PS to be not run by the engine. Does it mess with the tune at all then? .2 just seems like an AWFUL lot.

Re: Bring slicks, not excuses

i did it one day and did some runs and was wondering how i could make the car faster (back in the day) then i took off the ps belt and got 2 tenths consistantly... but it was when the car was slower (17.1 vs 17.3) no other mods. Im still on the same engine that used to run 17.3. on the a20 motor you can take off just the ps belt as it drives just the ps pump.

Same on the Y8, just can't recall if it's on the outter most part of the crank pulley or not. :-\ You think it will jack the tune? I just think that's crazy getting THAT much out of not running a little pump. You get where I'm coming from? I don't doubt you did it and tried, just, wow.

was that spinning them or hooking up/bogging? Even if i ran 1.9 60 fts i should still be around 12 sec territory i think...

Well I don't know if they will fit, NSX Calipers and 11" rotors throws a wrech at it. I had 13" ASA Alloys with spacers making it about a 4" backspace on my 10.3" Teg brake with heavily shaven rotors. Now the Aluminum rims are going to give less clearance due to more material in the rim. I'm going for probably 13"x7" with a 2.5" backspace for my 24.5X9x13 slicks this season.

All I can say is get the tape measure out!!

how were you guys launching on them? Just like redline clutch dumps or? they tell me that M&Hs like to get big burnouts and stage immediatley with low air pressure in them (10-12psi) what do you reccomend?

Bump from the dead. I was curious if it is possible for stock 13s you find any where to fit on a Honda. Brake clearance wise. This is on my Civic Ex and I have 14s I have just cleaned up, but look at these tires I found.

http://store.summitracing.com/partde...5&autoview=sku

They come in 215/50/13 and 235/50/13 for both they are under $100 a piece. Not too bad in my research attempts. Is it worth trying to snag 13s and throw these tires on? Sorry to thread jack, but I also am curious (as is the thread starter) on the launch. Wondering if he took them out yet too. :y

Squirrrrrrrrm? ??? I'm having trouble finding slicks about $100 a piece and I have a mild concern of ripping my tranny out. Suggestions now?

Re: Bring slicks, not excuses

If you dont just dump the clutch off the line you wont have to worry about breaking ---- (as much). Its the inital shock of the clutch engaging and the tires grabbing instead of slipping that breaks ----. Plus, if you just dump, you probably will just bog because hondas just (usually) dont have the torque to turn over big fat stickies fast enough at low rpm. Launching is 90% technique, and 100% practice.

Re: Bring slicks, not excuses

That's what I was going to do was slip it out in fear of tranny issues.
