Bought a new (to us) car yesterday.

1 Attachment(s)
So yesterday we traded in the wife's 04 lancer ES (no cruise, smelled like smoke, auto tranny was slipping, cigarette burns in the seats, 70K miles, pile of ----) and they gave us (surprisingly) $5500 for it so we picked this up.

2001 tahoe LT, heated leather seats, front/rear heat/ac, heated mirrors, electronic seat position memory, towing package, roof rack, etc... pretty much every available option for this except the sun/moon roof and the dvd player.

Re: Bought a new (to us) car yesterday.

$55 to fill it and 17 MPG. :)

We needed something we could haul our dogs in and something we could trailer our cars with.

Re: Bought a new (to us) car yesterday.

And to think I have a car with only a v6 and it takes $50 in gas and gets 21 mpg...

I'd pimp it

Re: Bought a new (to us) car yesterday.

main reason fuel pumps go is because people run on ------- e all the time. the fuel pump keeps cool by having it full all the time. but yea chevy pumps like to go. im on my 3rd.

i wasnt talking common problems, you work on them but you dont drive them as your daily driver. my friend had one and it was a piece of ---- low quality typical GM product. squeeks, rattles, noises etc. basically they slowly fall apart, as per GM owners manual spec.

Add on to that the fact that no one ever changes the fuel filter and when they finally do then they will be putting in a pump within a week.

Intake gaskets are a common problem on almost all gm engines.

I'm going to drop the tank in the next couple days and check out the pump that is in there and maybe put one in as insurance. :)
And brakes for these are cheap as hell, what do I care?

Not on a Dry intake like the 5.3/6.0L. Only reason ud need to take that intake off is to replace the knock sensors

nice rig, those are good powerful motors and get good mileage compared to others

The o-rings fail and cause a lean condition on one bank. I just did a set on an 03 sierra 5.3 today that came in w/ 1,3,5,7 random misfire and b1s1 lean. Sprayed some carb clean along the edge of the intake and she bucked like ------ crazy. Took the intake off and sure as ---- the gaskets had failed. :)

17mpg is really not that bad consider it is a SUV with a v8

Dr.Boost 01-27-2008 11:12 PM

Re: Bought a new (to us) car yesterday.

Those are nice, but I don't see 17mpg city driving out of that thing. :l How do you know what it gets already? How long have you had it? My Jeep weighs a tad over 4k and it gets about 12mpg city with a 4.7 V8. My Sierra got 9mpg no matter what. :3

I wouldn't mind having a Tahoe, but I've always thought they were gas hogs. :-\

the chevys are much much much better on fuel than dodges. all while making more power

the 4.7l v8 is pathetic as well as the 318 in the older ones.

Not to defend my Jeep in ANY way, but it's a peppy motor and scoots that pig of a Jeep around pretty damn good. I think they're rated at ~235hp. What is the smaller Chevy motor rated at? ???

The 5.3 puts out more hp? That's still .7 bigger than the 4.7. The HO 4.7 puts out a bit more.
