bought my 300zx turboed with PICS
 

well i just bought my 86 300zx turboed. i found out on the way home one of the headlights, speedometer dont work. it smokes really bad i either need a head gasket or valve cover. i raced my dad in his 04 kia sorento and he beat me by about a car length which isnt bad since i have engine damage and probably losing some hp. here are some pics

If you dad beat you in his kia i bet you need more engine work than you previously thought. Check that turbo too. How much did you pay, and is the body good?

the body is pretty good. turbo boosts to full max.. im pretty sure i just need a valve cover or head gasket changing both anyways. and im going to get my tranny rebuilt because it takes like 3 seconds to shift into each gear.its auto

I'm gonna take a stab in the dark and say you don't know much about cars. Anyone that says "engine damage" jsut sounds gay. I don't know how a valve cover gasket would make it smoke? And if it needs a head gasket you probably wouldn't make it home if you were "racing" ::)

His manifold damage meter wasnt registering on the laptop so that means its just regular engine damage. Sounds like this car is going to own him.... I could have sworn that in his thread asking about opinions on the car basically everyone said to steer clear of it? Its must be the same phenomena as SSautocrap....

You just bought a money pit which also is ugly as sin. Congrats. If the e-brake still works then after I got beat by a kia I would grabbed onto that fucker and done a 180 and took it back and got my 75 bucks back.

a Z isnt a car that you want o begin learning to work on cars on, its a very difficult car to work on, and the z31s are ugly as ----. and a valve cover gasket could make it smoke because its a V configuration and if it leaks it hits the turbo manifold, happened to me a few times on my z32

Just the fact the Kia owned your dogamatic means the car should be crushed and recycled. My buddy's Turbo Z was a 1986 and wasn't intercooled and it would own stock mustangs. Odds are that thing is a piece of ----.

Yea i pulled a turbo out of an 89 300zx the other week and it was a huge pain in the ass have fun working on that but if you need some parts for it let me know I might be able to grab some off the one in the yard

you'll need a lot of work...I was never fond of the SOHC VG or VGT. even with the decent internal and valvetrain mods available I've yet to see many "monstorous" VG30ETs(I've seen and read of few though). good luck! one thing though, those old iron VG series blocks are pretty much bulletproof for the most part, definently a stout Nissan motor.

yeah ive seen quite a few older ones running mid 15s personally at the track. They were 5.0s. Most camaros from that era are just as slow too

ya they are pretty slow both the 80s camaros and 80s mustangs, i think the TPI 350 iroc z camaros are faster thou.


but ya there are lots of shitty running ones that run high 15s.

Hahahahah now thats hiliarous Josh. The 80's Z were all ugly as ----. Let me tell you last time I checked ---- is pretty damn ugly. The Nissan designers should of laid off of the Knight Rider while gathering ideas for body. Damn Nissan had some nasty looking cars in the 80's. Once again what made you want this heap. The fact that it's turbo and a Z? :S

i had one of those z's, except mine was a cool Datsun, same color too. I parked it at a Rally's (fast food place) for a couple months. Some hoodlums came and stole some parts, then a month later they finally impounded it. ---- was a POS. It was somewhat fun to drive though, then again I was like 16and thought buying a manuel Z was cool :S

i dont care how the body or interior looks i like the interior its pretty tight. after i get a job im going to pull the engine and tranny. get a manual trans rebuild it and rebuild my engine then put it back in.up the boost to 10 psi and i should be running 14s.

running 14s is not that big of a deal and you're in way over your head if you think you're gonna rebuild a motor and tranny with no mechanical experience, good luck.

i am getting the tranny rebuilt with new gaskets and ---- im just going to install it. The engine im going to just take wipe it down and change the gaskets maybe get it rebuilt by a pro if i have the money. but yea i have most of the basics down of auto ive been in auto school for 6 months and working in my yard on cars for a year and a half.

Check all the gaskets. Replace all the fluids. Oil and tranny fluid included. Some times the stockers have a Exhaust mani to turbo gasket, so check that and make sure its not messed up.

those cars are a bitch to fix and cost money,u should of kept that civic.i raced my bros 86 z turbo,he got me the 1st time but we will race again.i over reved and he passed me in the 1/8 mile track
