Bought another Civic yesterday *PICS*
 

OK,

So my 89 hatch killed a rod bearing last week, and I didn't feel like putting it back together half assed and then have to do it again before racing in April. Since I have until april to finish the car, I figured I'd just get this other civic I've been looking at and turn the current one into a full race car.

My new car is an 88 Civic hatch, DX. Price paid, essentially $1700. I know it's a lot but get this...

1 owner, an old lady has had this since 1988. I've got the original Honda window sticker with the price and all that... $8500 new. The car is really clean for the midwest, has only 80k miles, and the engine bay is immaculate. I put my 15s with snow tires on right away, (nice black 5 spoke Fitapaldis), and that looks nice over red. I've got record of every time a mechanic touched this thing, which is also sweet. New clutch (even though it's the small one) and all that too. Now I know it's a DX, but here's the list of to be mods (daily driven, the turbo hatch will be the race car).

MPFI swap (I've already got all the parts)Z6 manifold
Chikara Header
Intake
short shift
strut bar
stock rear sway
si gauge cluster
si seats
si cam
later (shaved 7y head, pnp, with 3 angle valve job... ;D)

For now, I've already got most of it, so that's all I'll do. I don't care about making it look flashy, so I stick to simple upgrades. It'll be nice to have a normal car (no exhaust or springs) to cruise comfortably in...

Once I get the other car turbo, if it's running well enough, I may turbo this one too. Or when I go on trips to cali and texas and such, I'll just swap the turbo kit over onto this car for the trip....

ahh come on, you all know that once I turbo the race car, I'm gonna want to turbo this too... soon enough.

Stealth, I may need another oil kit/manifold from you. I may pick up a pair of those sexxy fuel lines too, we'll see how the finances go.

Jung, thats exactly how I felt about my civic hatch too! I got a 91 and immediately put my factory Honda aluminum wheels on, picked up a z6 head and MPFI intake manifold, and did a little exhaust work. It's so nice to have a car that you can still mod the engine and have it stock outside. Pretty fun to pull up on people and see their faces be like wtf ??? lol, I like that hatch cover you have too, mine doesn't have one and I can hear all the plastic on the hatch rattling around.

Yeah, I like the car a lot, I wish I could have found it with the color matched bumpers, cuz i think that looks nicer. I feel weird putting wheels on a DX, but when I have the mods done (I'll probably put a 8lb flywheel on to) I think she'll suprise most people. For the summer I've got some old Accord Alloys with AVS intermediates, but I may just get some Azenis for those black wheels.

The mpfi swap with either the a6 cam, or the whole y7 head(more likely) should happen in the next 2 weeks. I'm gonna pnp the head and do a nice valve job with a budy next weekend, get it shaved .020, powdercoat the gear and cover, and swap it on...That should make her scoot a bit more. and if I do that flywheel and clutch, maybe a 35 shot of nos, then I won't have anything to worry about on most MN streets...lol, I'm gonna go too far with this car... but oh well.

lol yeah I hear ya. Mine had the black bumpers too and to top it all of it was baby blue! I ended up cracking up the front end because of a little hood mishap, so I gave the entire car a re-spray of Si (well close) blue and painted the bumpers to match. But I left the side moldings and the black strip around the bumpers black. I like it alot more.

yeah, I'd love to paint the whole thing a fresh coat of black, but I hate having a car that you have to paint door sills and all that to have it look descent, I'd end up having to paint it red again to be happy, but for 16 years, the paint looks descent.
