BMW 330ci

I'm looking at the 2001 BMW 330ci. Anyone own one of these or have any opinions on this car? I dont know too much about beamers but really like the look of these cars. Yes I know they cost an arm and a leg and yes I know I could build 3-4 CRX with turbo and hit 12's on all of them with the money, but I wanna know what you think about this car in terms of reliability, performance, and cost? I prefer the M's but money doesnt grow on trees so the 330ci might be the one.

I drove a newer 328i I think or maybe it was a 330i. It was a six speed and had some nice tourque. The wheels looked really nice which were factory 18 inch wheels. Not the fastest car you could get but I think it looks pretty good and is luxorious.

slow? that car runs mid 14's stock, I'll have time slips somewhere to prove it. I am a BMW freak. My best friend owns an '01 330ci 5speed.

check out www.E46fanatics.com you will not be dissapointed w/ that car no atter what.

:edit: cause I found the time slips and it said anywhere from 15.0 to 14.4(best)

IMO BMW's are for rich old men who need to compinsate for lack in just about all areas other then finacial.

Re:BMW 330ci

IMO I spent a whole ------- lot of money to make my car handle better then that car does stock. the interior is ergonomic and functional, there is enough power on tap to do whatever you need it to do, and plus you get the fun stuff (like xenon's and Navi, and ---- like that) If I could rock that car I would, But I can't afford one, so I built my civic to surpass it.

no, not on the moon either, the car will still have the same mass, but with the lower gravitational force on the moon it would have less weight, less weight=less traction, and moon dust isn't hot for traction to begin with.

Pretty much the way I look at it is you can take any BMW and for half the price you can make a honda run circles around it, be more comfortable and pretty much whatever else you want.

don't forget insurance savings on a honda rather than a bmw.

Re:BMW 330ci

i know the cost of the insurance and the car... I know its not the fastest car in the world. and I know I can build a civic with the works and have it bounce like a low rider and run 11's all day but guess what...

Its a babe magnet! Sometimes pussies matter more than ponies... <SHRUG>

Give me constructive opinions on this car rather than its slow and you could build a better crx.

Re:BMW 330ci

Get the BMW, you will be VERY VERY happy with it. BMW gives you the first 5 years of maintenence for FREE. Oil changes, brakes, everything. The only thing they don't give you is gas and tires. But yeah. I know many BMW owners and they're all on their like 3rd BMW. And if you want it to be your performance vehicle. Just get a dynan chip and it transforms the car. Again, you will be happy if you get that car. And a scientifically supported survey shows that BMW owners get laid more often. :) definitely a plus if you ask me.

That's what I've heard, and I'd like to test out the study... =) haha =)

How much do those Dinan chips run anyways. (as you can see I'm still in the research phase of this)

Breaker84 09-20-2004 02:23 AM

Re:BMW 330ci

like about 300 dollars. But if you buy the package with the intake chip and exhaust, it's like 2000. and with JUST the exhaust and intake that gives a HUGE horsepower gain.

bambooseven 09-20-2004 03:11 AM

Re:BMW 330ci

dinan is the most horrible crap on earth. you put a dinan intake/exhaust/and chip on a 330 and you make 8 hp for $1700 or so. you put a grouppe M intake, UUC exhaust, and an ASE chip on your 330, and You'll make about 20hp for $1500 or so. dinan is the worst crap out there. When/if you buy this BMW and you are looking for mods for it, hit me up, I'll help you out.

Breaker84 09-20-2004 03:15 AM

Re:BMW 330ci

Dinan doesn't void the warranty :)

bambooseven 09-20-2004 03:23 AM

Re:BMW 330ci

dinan doesn't void the warranty, but niether does the other ----, as long as they can't prove that the equipment is at fualt they are not allowed to void the warranty because of it. (the chip however will void the warranty) you'd be an idiot to leave any ---- on your car if you are taking it in for warranty anyway.

in my opinion, i like the 4 door bmw way better than a 2dr.
and the 745i is freakin awsome, it looks like a spaceship or shomething. but as far as the 3 series goes, i'd get a 4dr over a 2 door anyday.

Re:BMW 330ci

B16drag, here it goes,

buying a BMW has less to do with the car itself than the dealership you buy it from. Some are ------- awesome, some suck balls (like Sandia BMW in Albuquerque, NM cough cough). My in-laws have purchased 4 new BMWS in the last 7 years. 1997 Z3, 1997 740iL, 1997 M3 and a 2001 X5. The Z3 had complete engine failure within the first 4 months of ownership (first year manufactured, I guess i'll give them the benefit of the doubt). The 740iL had a bunch of problems with the engine also, but more minor. The M3 has been pretty fricking perfect, no major mechanical problems whatsoever, and the X5 has had a few recalls and problems with the auto-leveling system, abs, and things like that. It seems like the cars that were manufactured in Germany (VIN starts with a W) are much higher quality, while cars made in the US (VIN starts with a 1, 2, or 4) have more problems. But the service at any BMW dealership will surpass most other dealerships, with the exception of Porsche/Mercedes etc. so as long as you get a good dealership they will take care of you, if you get a shitty service department then good luck to you. As far as driving experience goes, if you like to DRIVE the car as opposed to be impressed by the quality of the leather and all the wood trim, then BMW is for you. If you care more for luxury and don't care about the driving experience, get a Mercedes of a Jag. :-\ The ergonomics in BMWs are very good, and they drive better than anything else i've driven. Especially the M3. ;)

Re:BMW 330ci

BMW 330ci = badass .period.

I wanted to get one of those in a manuel, but I found a better lover ;)

I love the body style on that car and the 330 is just better. I would never buy a 323, or 325 (well maybe I would if it was cheap) cause the 330 is just better :P I think there is a significant difference in the suspension between the 330 and the 32x. Bambi can correct me if I'm wrong, I'm trying to recall research from over a year ago, and it's hard especially when you don't remember stuff from yesterday :-\

But yeah, if you could get a good price, get it. I love those cars just plain sexy.

Re:BMW 330ci

the 330ci is a damn sweet car. if i were you id consider the 330xi cause its the fastest non m-series bmx you can get. they can be expesive to maintain though. my dad has had a 323i and that thing was slow as ----, a 528i and that thing was just nice to drive in and now we have an x5 and that ---- is pimp. its faster than all the other ones weve had and it looks amazing and rides amaizng.

Honda16hb 09-20-2004 05:45 PM

Re:BMW 330ci

my dad's 04 duramax hauls some balls, I was driving it last night in the rain, I floored it and the ------- tired broke loose and the back end started sea-sawing from one side to the next, that ---- was off the chain. plus it's turbo, which one of these bmws is turbo? plus it's functional, when's the last time a bmw hauled a ton of bricks in the back?

Re:BMW 330ci

my aunts fiance has a 330ci and its not that fast (its quick... cant be faster than a low 15) but its the automatic/tiptronic (hate it) but the car is so GD quiet even with the top down and it handles decent... If i had the money id get somthing else but otherwise it is a very nice car

yellowcrx6 09-20-2004 09:32 PM

Re:BMW 330ci

i say get it. same reason i got an a4 1.8T. yea u can build a civic to be faster, but its not the same. i say if u can afford it, go for it. i miss my crx, but i have no regrets about the audi i got :)

It is slower then a normal 330ci, it has 4 doors and all wheel drive (how could that equate to faster?) ::)

the "fast" one is the 330i ZHP (10 extra HP) except it only comes in steptronic and up until recently only came w/ 4 doors also.

330ci sport is the best 3 series they make, the M3 is lame, it is already tapped out for power. supercharged 330's walk on M3's all day long, and if you want to supercharge an M3, you either have the option of running like 4psi for $10,000 or lowering the ungodly high compression and boosting more (for $30,000) GL with either of those.

Same car, different motor. only sport package and non sport package (suspension wise)

BTW just a heads up, ATP is coming out w/ a turbo setup for non M 3 series in the very near future, I'll post pics/vid when we get it on My buddiy's 330.

There you go, I didn't know they made a 330 non sport, the ones I was looking at were all sports.

And that beamer your bud gots there is pretty badass, except I really don't like the front bumper, looks too much like an eclipse front and almost SUVish. I'd rather have an M front.
