If she can cope with being bored as ----, accountancy/finance is where the money is at. Otherwise, geology gets you into the oil industry where pay is high. Always jobs for more lawyers (sadly).

Mostly i'd go for accountancy, its stupendously dull, but there is work anywhere and if you work for a big financial institution, there's very serious money to be made. Some of the elite hedge fund managers in london are taking home $500m bonuses this year! Your wife will never get close to this, but $100-200k is easy if you work for an investment bank.

I got an accounting degree then said ---- that. Way too boring, I don't know how people can do that for a living.

The best career is something you actually want to do. Don't get a degree for the money, only to find out that's the next profession to be shipped overseas. Open a business in the local service market.

In the end, all these master degreed nogs will be unemployed and I'll be laughing because you can't ship your house to china to be painted. haha bitches. Pay up.

I could never understand how people think accounting is boring. I have been at it for a few years, and am now learning it in college. Yes there is a lot to know, and a lot of accountabilty, but it is a great career if you have ethics and are detail orientated. The CPA route and payroll are especially good for the paychecks.

Immigrant labour will price you out of the market. Or make you so poor you'll be better off on welfare.

My company already get their ---- made in china, we just do our design/marketing in the UK. Engineering pay sucks though, its decent money, but not exactly high earning.

Doing something she enjoys is probably going to be the biggest part of choosing a career, perhaps she'd like to teach? The money sucks, but the holidays are good.

Telecom. Starting pay for a four year degree is $60K+ and the job market is growing in our country regardless of China. A country that can't correctly name a couch's color isn't a threat to high-end skilled labor.

I'm tinkering with the idea of running with a two year degree in electronics, as I recieved a job offer based on my mechanical/electronics background starting at $24/hr. Instead of knocking off a BS at WCU for an extra two years of class, I can do the same BS through UNC-C with four years of online classes and some hardcore mini-mester labs during the summer. I'm not sure I'd get what I want to out of online classes, though.

If I painted for the craigslist market it would. If I paint for upper-class whiteys who enjoy a "good morning" in English on the job, no. Behind every illegal construction crew is a rich white guy anyway. I'm still ripe for that market in the event.

if you live anywhere near casnios. like even the next state over, tell her to look into dealing cards. that is if shes ok at math and remembering STRICT rules she could make 30-60 dollars an hour depending on what games she likes. poker makes the most cuz they keep their tips and dont share them with all the other dealers. its a very easy job

Yes sir. Tell her to be a RN. Takes a couple of years of school and training but she will be getting paid bank and you will thank yourself for supporting her when shes buying you ---- for your rice rocket.

Re: Best paying career feilds?

Um, I don't think you can be in a good paying career if you can't manage to do a 10 minute google search for statistically the best paying jobs in the US. They also do a lot of research on what jobs will be needed and have good job growth. Again, 10 minutes of google searching and you will be set. Right now Comp Science majors are making bank and are in high demand. If I wasn't so along with my degree, I would have done that. Screw all the people that told me that all comp science jobs would be gone because of outsourcing. Seriously, ---- them.

If you have the skill an associates is not that bad. My older brother got a job starting at $60K at NEC right out of college with a nice $5K signing bonus.

I'm in for the masters though. Two months away from getting my BS in EE and then another year and a half for a masters.

Also, ---- the online classes. They just suck and are no good for teaching you anything unless you are great at leanring sans hands-on. I gotta say some of these online kids that have to come into the school to finish their senior project are just retarded. It's like they didn't learn anything about electronics or even simple programming skills. It's really pathetic.

Nursing.Become a RN and registered nurse its 4 years and is one of the highest demand professions worldwide. Here in Canada base rate is $27 a hour and goes up with years. My mother is a RN and is around $34-36 a hour I cant remember now.She could move to almost any country on the planet and they will give here a 5 year Visa with the option of permanent citizenship and most will pay the flight over and do the paper work as they are so hurting for RN's.

Re: Best paying career feilds?

Online classes are significantly different than sitting in class, but I won't say which is better. Online classes you are able to sit at your computer and do the work in a more real to life situation. You are given projects and you have infinite resources but limited time. It's basically the same as you would have in any job. The bad part about it is you rarely memorize and commit the various ideas to your memory. So you will know how to use the concept in real life if you can read about it or have a prompt from a resource, but without that resource you are fucked. With classes you actually attend you are forced to memorize and "learn" the information for a short time at least. The problem with this is because you are in a class with limited resources, you can't do nearly as in depth concepts so the class tests are generally easier and more generalized. Teachers can choose to do out of class tests and such but its a rarity. Also just because you remember the stuff for a test, doesn't mean you will remember it in the future. Overall I'd say I remember more from attending class, but only a bit more. Any online class I've taken was just a one time thing and I never built on that information vs most of the classes I've attended I end up taking another class where we used the information previously so its not necessarily the most fair comparison.

No one can retire at 20 years of govt service unless you are up there on the GS positions, and/or did a ton of saving/investing over those 20 years...and who the hell has done that, or could even afford to. :X

thats the reason why I say I'll go till 65, because I wouldn't get ---- monthly. but I have the TSP and a bad back from all that dumb physical training, so VA is gonna hear from me soon. I need to start using my GI bill and get a new career.

I'll be starting my new career as a surgical technician on June 17th at $33/HR. not too bad for 19 months and $32K of bust my ass schooling. But its cool because I can finally make working on cars a "hobby" again after 9 straight years of dicking around with this ---- 6 days a week. I will work 7pm to 7 am 3 days a week, get paid for 40 hrs, and can do as much overtime as I want so long as it is there.
