Re: best oil

also its not just the "best" oil to put in your Honda transmission...its the ONLY oil you should be putting in it...

and none of this bullshit about "10w30 is about the same"... MTF is NOT the same, it feels/smells/tastes/works different...

Honda MTF is amazing. They reformulated it recently, helps even more with grinding and popping out of gear.

I like using used straight 30 with oxyclean in it just to keep everything clean. It cleans while you drive!

Pennzoil syncromesh, same part number as GM stuff, but 1/4 of cost.

Re: best oil

if you had no problems previously why would you change from honda mtf? its not like you're going to feel or tell any difference.

I changed fluid in my 90' integra with 5-30 or whatever the manual reccomends, and it started grinding 3 months later, pissed me off. That thing has 215,000 miles on it and 2,000 miles after the 10-30 it grinds? thats not right, use the honda mtf. its not even that expensive

Re: best oil

jb weld, your syncros will love you

i use just over 1 quart of honda mtf, and one of gm syncromesh, and add lsd additive if it has a lsd...

I love the MTF it really helped my syncros out, but I cant afford changing it out as often as I should (autox, general beating the hell out of it etc) I might run 10w-30 or 40 supertech in the future, its so cheap I wouldnt mind changing it out frequently. Guess it all depends on how much I make at a new job :8

Funny you mention that... Automatic hondas that havent been changed in a long ass time + a full flush and new fluid = slipping and weird ass shifting

Flushed the auto in my '89 Acura Legend and the tranny fucked out promptly afterwards :7

krustindumm 07-21-2007 02:57 PM

Re: best oil

do not flush honda automatics. drain & fill only. They hold about 9qts, and you can drain 3 qts, so 4 d&f's will get you about 80% fluid replacement. Use ONLY Honda Genuine ATF, or add a bottle of Honda Additive if you use Dexron.

RotaryGeek 07-21-2007 03:10 PM

Re: best oil

for a wore out tranny that still has all its gears i use a 50 50 mix of cheap ass 10w30 and lucas oil stabalizer. that ---- sucks if you spill it or get it on your hands. and kitty litter does nothing to it. it laughes in the face of kitty litter.

I reccomend doing at least a drain and fill on a honda automatic at least every 30k miles or so. Some people never change it after like 125000 miles and then when they do they wonder why they have tranny issues.
