to balance or not to balance?
Ok i was talking to my machinist today and im unsure whether or not to spend the $$ to get my crank balanced on my 4g63. Im putting in all new internals and the extra 260 bucks is gonna hurt my wallet, especially if i dont need it. On my honda, i didnt get it balanced and never had a problem, but i want this motor to take some abuse and stay together for a long time. anyone have some input?...no dsm bashing, jeff :P

Re:to balance or not to balance?
do you have the crank that fits since dsm's had a problem with the crank not fitting and them getting crank walk.
if you do no problem, i wouldent get it ballenced, unless you just want that peice of mind or to know everythings right before you put it back together. I would get it ballenced if you droped a shitload of money into pistions and rods though. just to be on the safe side.

yes i have a 6 bolt motor...(and the 7 bolt problem isnt that the crank "doesnt fit"). Anyway, im just looking for people's experience with balancing it or not, like if they chewed up a bearing 10k miles later or whatever when they didnt balance it.

Re:to balance or not to balance?
I've balanced 1 honda engine and have slapped together oh I dunno, maybe 15-20 engines without.
All of them have held fine, no bearing problems. Mainly just problems with D's rods launching through the block.

he bought the car from some shaddy dealer, i told him not too. when it was all takin apart his bearings where soooo shot, the crank was grinded down so much that he would have needed it welded back. the rods where just scrapin the ---- out of it. the guy who is doin it for him said that who ever had the car before him(the shop where he got it) had just rigged up all the bearings in there
damn DSM's hes got a 97 2nd gen
