b18c1 w/ stock sleeves...Power ?

Sorry if it's been covered a million times...I couldn't find anything. I'm just wondering how much power a b18c1 can handle with stock sleeves before they become an issue? Assuming it's tuned properly and not detonating...Any ideas? If it makes a difference I want it to be running 9 or 10 psi daily, and then 22 or 23(whatever it takes to make abot 500-515 with a t61) when it's at the track.

It's all in how well your engine is built, and how good your tuner is. What chassis is this going into?

Re: b18c1 w/ stock sleeves...Power ?

EF civic or CRX.

Engine would be eagle rods, CP pistons, arp hardware...and a block guard and posts if they'll help...Seems like people have their own opinions on if those are worth the money.

I'd have the whip factory tune it most likely. He's one of the best tuners around.

Goal would be mid-high 10s once everything is setup right and I figure out how to launch it decent.

Lol...dream ride...

Actually I'd like to build one. I'm selling my mustang come springtime after I get some new timeslips for it.

It's not going to last forever on stock sleeves.

Yeah I figured...

But to get it together and running, and have a block sleeved in the mean time.

are you nuts?!?! do you know anything about sleeves? you wont last more than 10psi with a t61. you need heavy duty sleeves for anything more than 15psi with that turbo or some heavy duty block posting/block filler and you will NEVER make 500hp(if thats what you were saying) on 23psi. Maybe if you had a GT99RR You would make 500whp with 20psi. Keep dreaming like us all.

You are going to spend a minumum of $2k getting your car to run anything over 375hp

You got a ------- 502. Build it for lo-comp strong internals and boost that fucker.

Obviously you don't know much more than I do.

BTW, here's a gsr making 521whp with 21psi. http://videos.streetfire.net/search/...910131ec90.htm

I wish I had a 502.

It's actually a 306.

And I'd have to buy a 1700$ block right off the bat if I were to boost it. anything over 550rwhp with these and it's a gamble on if it will break in half or not.

You truely are a dumb ass.... I made 402whp @14psi, with my gsr, it had rods, pistons, and stock sleeves. For the track we raised the boost to 16psi and made 453whp. So what do you think another 4psi would make??? 10 more whp??
Back to the question, It'll make 500whp on the stock sleeves but you'll be pushing it. It could blow in the burnout box or while being tuned and it could last years like that, who knows it's a guessing game.
BUT I will tell you I wish I would have paid the extra at the time and had mine sleeved, it isn't a big sum of money so your best bet would be to wait til you can afford it and then it's done and over with. It'll be cheaper than building two blocks also. The price of the rods and pistons for the second block would pay for you to have this block sleeved or a good part of it anyways.

Re: b18c1 w/ stock sleeves...Power ?

Well thanks guys for the info.

I've been talking with my buddy about doing it and I told him I wanted to do everything right the first time so I don't have to fix it later on down the road. So I might as well get the block sleeved right off the bat.

As for the chassis..I thought about putting it in my DD crx until I came across a nice clean roller. It would be a flat black rusted shitbox but it'd make some good power.

If I had to pick one little gem of advice from this thread, it would be this >:D

BTW, my daily GSR has lived a hard life of 355whp for about 8-10k so far, and see's 3rd gear rips daily, and some 4th gear blasters at least weekly.
IMHO, I'd rock stock sleeves all the way to the 500's. If it doesnt see any detonation when on pump gas, or excesive cyl. pressure when on race gas (ie, some sane timing #'s) , the pin will stay in the grenade. :)
