awd integra!!!

well, i just aquired a 2nd gen integra. I have never really wanted a hond/acura just cause i like to be original. well i got the car for 500bux so i couldnt pass it up. well i still want to be original so i decided to try to make this bitch awd!! Right now, im trying to figure out if im gonna buy a crv tranny and rear-end or a civic wagon tranny and rear-end. I think mostlikely i will use the civic tranny and rear end with a zc, just because the crv tranny and rear-end is very bulky. Its gonna be a hard project but i have all the tool and equipment i will need. now all i need is the parts and time lol.

Re:awd integra!!!

the civic rear end will bolt into 90-91 integra's

but you have to find a 88-91 AWD civic.

Re:awd integra!!!

yeah.... ive pretty much figured what parts i need. now i just need to locate them lol.

Re:awd integra!!!

already had a sleaper snow wagon :-) then i decided to keep jumping it over my friend (over 5 feet in the air) and we bent the frame, broke the radiator, all kinds of ----, i'm going to be bringing it to the junkyard tomorrow.

but i belive it came only in japan, for like 2-3 years and it had a d series motor/tranny.

Re:awd integra!!!

actually they only made it for a year, lol, lame, but yah. it was powered by a z6.

I was wonering about this very same thing for my 2000 GSR.

Does anyone know if it's possible?

Will the CRV tranny & rearend work?

Re:awd integra!!!

lots of custom crap.

Re:awd integra!!!

yea, the drive train is still in tacked, i guess i could sell the whole car to gasser 50 bucks, you pick up :-) i payed 100! still drives!

only problem is, its the generation before, the suspension wont bolt it, like it would with the 88-91 suspension, mines an 85:-(

Re:awd integra!!!

i've heard that the crv rear end is pretty weak, isn't the 4wd civic rear end/drivetrain even weaker?

bambooseven 01-03-2004 07:49 PM

Re:awd integra!!!

i say use the AWD civic tranny with a ford 9" in the rear.

This was covered in 6-03 hondatuning. I haven't seen any new installments. They're dragging ass on all their projects ???
BTW, IMHO I don't think you want to goto a awd setup from an 88-91civic or a CRV. I own both a 90 civic& 99 CRV. I'm switchin my civic to 2wd. The civic awd is good but its on-demand is via a silicon filled center viscous coupling. You will not get the performance type traction you seek from this setup. It is only good for snow & rain. On dry stuff I switch it off. I don't want to bust a 14yr old system.
As far as my CRV goes, I took a corner @ full throttle on dry once and now all I hear from the rear is a loud groaning noise when the rear engages >:(. The dealer is lookin at it now. I think the civic setup is better but the transfer case is small & weak, both are really.
Check the DSM guys, center diff isn't very strong for them either. The latest EVO tranny is supposed to be better but the only guy I've seen with AWD success is John Sheppard and he has a welded diff in his DSM.
I think the latest Hotrod mag has his article.
If I wanted AWD performance I would buy DSM.
Whichever way, good luck.

Re:awd integra!!!

well, it will still have better traction than fwd. and if its really a poblem, i'll machine a spool for it. I have access to cnc lathes and mills.

I hear with the CRX swap that to make the rear axles alignemnt correct you need to cutup that rear brace, not a prety picture.

thats why you dont do the crx one, you put in in a 4 dr civic or an integra :-)

Re:awd integra!!!

the civic is now awd. rt4wd. its a slush box 4wd system.

i accidentally locked my into 4wd by having 2 different size tires between the front and rear. after about 10 min of driving the rear end was screaming, some metal on metal action and the car drove like ----. it's not designed to be awd.

when i say the car drove like ---- i mean, it was all squeemish, hardly go go above 45 mph. i was worried/pissed off the whole drive. it lasted for about 20 min.

thers a 90 awd manual civic wagon in a yard here (new hampshire), has overall body damage, but everything else seems good.

that also goes for civic and integra. that rear brace will cause all sorts of headakes with a CRV drivetrain, ill dig up the mag i was looking at. they were trying to make the CRV drivetrain work on an integra type-r and they had to cust out most of the frame in the rear to make it fit right. not worht the hastle IMO

DUH!!! thats why we're talking about the civic wagon awd running gear.

mine has the right size tires on it, well it did, and it drove fine at 70 in 4wd, then i put a spare tire on the front
holy ---- it was fuking hard to drive in 4wd.

Re:awd integra!!!

I like that idea about the ford rear 9 inch thingamabobber. that would probably work fine, besides thats what papdakis did for his fwd.

gasser 01-07-2004 08:31 PM

Re:awd integra!!!

So is the awd civic fulltime awd, on demand awd, or do you have to manually engage the awd?

a friend of mine want to awd his civic and wants to know how.if anyone has information on how to do this let me know.he has the money he just wants to see a write up on how to do it. if anyone has a link on how to with pics hook me up.thanks

He's gonna have to do what im doing. Just jump into the project and figure ---- out on his own and have fun doing it.

Turbo90Accord4DR 01-08-2004 04:09 AM

Re:awd integra!!!

its push button, and its not AWD its 4WD. AWD is totaly different and always ingaged and gay. its 4wd.

bambooseven 01-08-2004 06:27 AM

Re:awd integra!!!

i didn't know it was push button, is it on the fly turnoffable? it'd be cool to have it hooked up to a speed sensor activated switch to turnit off at say 10 mph, 4WD launch, FWD run ;D

Re:awd integra!!!

http://yota1man.tripod.com/vtecwagon/
Here's a guy in our wagon group that made a 2wd wagon into
a 4wd. Even though the 4wd wagon parts are interchangable he still had a good bit of cutting and welding to do.
To switch the 4wd to 2wd there is a lever on the transmission that disengages the transfer case.
As far as on-demand, thats done mechanically
via silicon viscous coupling.
IMO this is not a street or strip reliable setup. ::)

Re:awd integra!!!

Hondatuning magazine is doing or already done it to a type r. They used various parts froom the zxi intergra and the crv. This is quite a while back. There was an awd crx for sale on hondateck for like 6000 like a year ago . My two cents. :P

---- the teg, just build a AWD civic.

Re:awd integra!!!

I've got the Feb issue of HondaTuning & IMO not bad considering the rear end is making noise. :o
Go get it & read it, I did, makes me wonder why anyone would piss this kinda money down the drain.
Quote".....After a while we start hearing noises that cannot be healthy for our car. As we start four-wheel drift turns at low and medium speed, the noise and chatter increases....Answers to come in the next installment."

I hope this nothing like the groaning that comes out the rearend of my CRV under 1/2 to full throttle. ;)

Re: awd integra!!!

the only thing that ford rear end is good for is burnouts, cause the four cylinder trannies turn left an fords turn right.
