Apple users?

Anyone on here an apple user? I just (5 minutes ago) ordered a 60gb iPod and 12" Powerbook with extended coverage on both, iPod dock, wireless mouse, and airport base (wireless modem). Can't wait to get them, tired of my pc giving me hell all the time. (not to plug but it is listed in classifieds if anyone is interested) Wondering how well HMT functions within Safari, Mac's web browser, or if anyone has any input about OS X. I've heard nothing but good about it.

HMT looks good, between Safari and Firefox I havent had any issues where Ive had to use explorer. OSX is lightyears ahead of Microsoft, its very stable, easy to use and intuitive.. I just wish they had SolidWorks and a few other programs I use. Im waiting to upgrade mine when the intel macs are released next year youll be able to run non emulated XP programs and have OSX.

Yeah I know, plan to rip my entire CD collection and selling the stereo from my car so I won't have to worry about anything. Just tuck the iPod in my pocket.

I wouldn't say I fit into the illiterate group so much as the I hate Microsoft and I'm tired of problems with my PC group. Besides I'm about to start my architecture degree and I'd rather be doing my design on a Mac for stability reasons.

Re: Apple users?

RAWR,

Have you used the new OSX. Its unix underneith so you have infinite control if you know what your doing. You can command line if it floats your boat.

And Im using a PC at work right now and I hate it. ---- crashes almost daily, for no reason with fucked up encriptic system error codes. I spend like an hour a week dealing with MS bullshit... Ive been running OSX for like the past year at home and never had a hard crash and never needed to reconfg.

Re: Apple users?

my pc on windows 64 never crashes. its been on for about a month and a half now. i run a few servers, so thats why. if you have windows configured right it works great. somthing about being on a mac is agervating for me its probebly because ive never sat down with one and messed with it for longer than an hour. plus macs price tag doesnt like my wallet. i could be running a dual core amd system for less than a powerbook cost.

Hey if you use IM programs such as aol/yahoo/icq/msn i suggest downloading "Adium" very nice customizable IM program and nice and sleek. As for HMT forum on Safari or Firefox on a mac it looks great, what more can I say. If you need anything i've been using mac's for years so hit me up with any questions.

<- die hard windows

mac is lame as far as im concered. i got steve a job right here in my pants.

ive never had any problems with ANY windows operating system.

2000/NT my fav, but XP is just as good.

sometimes i think they go too far with the little gagets in XP though

2000 and NT are the best in my books. ME is the worst, i'd rather run 3.11 for workgroups :D

Re: Apple users?

I'm using a G4 w/a gig or ram...yeah, it owns. :)
My advice w/the architecture software is find out from other users if theres any problems w/versions of osX. I'm running pro tools and the biggest agrivation is mac wants to install update bundels that conflict w/core audio and my software version. So once I have everything running tip-top, I don't install any updates what-so-ever, if it ain't broke, don't fix it.

oh, and since someone brought up safari, heres my question. I was able to bring in all my internet bookmarks from my PC into safari no prob BUT i really want to bring them into fire fox and I just can't do it. I've spent quite a bit of time and still, no go. Any suggestions?

I'll keep that in mind, I've played around with OS X a little bit and I like it but I don't know ---- about it yet. So, I'm sure I'll have plenty of questions for you.

I have no problem with Windows, nor am I struggling to use a Windows box by any means. However I'm just tired of all the little quirks and stuff I have to deal with all the time, I had planned on buying a laptop soon anyways and I kind of want to move back to a simpler user experience. If it makes any sense I want to be dumb and not have to fiddle with things to get them to work....as far as my pc goes. I really love the all of the Macintosh styling, everything is very sleek and refined. OS X is extremely powerful from what I've seen and most professionals who do image editing or anything with liberal arts have historically used Mac's for all their work. Besides all the same software I would be required to use on a PC to do architecture is available on the Mac, and I'm not totally sure but I think Mac's are preferred.

8), you can set your xp up to not look gay.
right click your start menu, propertys then the startmenu tab select classic start menu.

then right click the desk top propertys/appearance under the windows and buttons drop down select windows classic style. i hate that ------- gay bubbley looking xp ----

well... i have had very little problems with windows 2000. the main problems are the little programs crashing, and or needing sp4 to run. ---- that.

linux, i have been very very very very very proud of.infact i think mac os is based off of net bsd. wich is the older brother to linux. the only thing is, mac os is catered to that specific hardware. linux can run it, but isnt coded specifically. for the ppc it is however.

Re: Apple users?

I use osx, windows and linux. osx is the best of both worlds in my opinion, you get the stability of a unix based operating system with the best user interface i've ever used. Don't get me wrong, i'm no mac zelot, I still have my pc and I use it regularly for gaming, but thats it. I'd rather use my mac for everything else. Except for my file server, thats what linux is for. It will be very interesting to see what happens when apple switches over to intel proccessors. I can't wait to try osx on a pc, that will rock.

if u want compatibility, go PC.

if u just want to use a computer without worries, go MAC.

if you like to fiddle around (or like options) go linux.

Well being that i was a graphics major i was pushed towards macs and have loved them ever since.
Now that i own my own 15" Powerbook G4 w/ a gig of ram, I'm thinking of upgrading to a nother gig of ram if i start doing heavy video editing
but for running Photoshop CS, Illustrator CS, InDesign CS, and iTunes mainly at the same time including various other programs
I does a lot better than my PC.
As far as user friendly, Its kinda backwards for me. When people get on Mac's, at least the students i were teaching, is was a TA, half the people didn't even know how to turn it on or eject the drive.:(
But i love mine and can't wait til i get a full time job so I can get a desktop G5

Have you tried to go in firefox File > Import? If not;

Macintosh HD > Applications > FireFox > Rightclick show package contents > MacOS > defaults > profile

"bookmarks.html" will be in there just replace it with your bookmarks from safari. Just export them from safari and replace the file in FireFox. Hope that helps.

Haha, I agree with you on the styling...but I dig that kind of ----. If I had been approved for a higher credit line I might have opted for a PowerMac G5...but they only gave me a 3,000 limit. Actually had to drop a few things from my order first :( Oh well, still got a nice laptop and iPod I'll probably never fill up.

prepare to have a wonderful computer experiance.

i don't care what anyone says, mac all the way. oh ever used i tunes on a mac. it organizes your songs for you, in folders. no driver gayness, so much plug and play compatibility, air port is awesome.

all i know is i never had a problem .and you can't get final cut for a pc. or DVD studio pro.

everything i tried to do with it works. i can even plug my ethernet in and turn internet sharing on to make it into a wireless hub for other computers. or the other way around if someone doesn't have air port. plus they're pretty.
my powerbook is silver, sexy light, and i plug a dvi monitor into it and have a dual setup.

Speaking of coming along well, I used older Mac's and hated the OS and everything about them. OS X is truely brilliant, I've barely used it and already in love.
