be weary though... they are gonna charge you an hour just to pull codes and start basic diag.

then just keep doing more tests and charging you money.

you're problem doesn't sound very clear cut, and might need some considerable diag.

my shop charges $110 an hour so be careful and good luck to ya :6

you could buy your own diagnostics test machine and clear your codes. its probably messing with the afr because it sensed it was missing. or you could just take it to advanced auto, orileys, auto zone. they will do it for free :y

sounds like your in for some ankle grabbing at the dealer man...

it is certainly possible that your #2 injector is intermittenly inop. this could be due to numerous things though which is the problem. it could be related to a bad injector harness (i've personally seen many under warranty), also the DME may be the issue because it grounds out the injectors internally using transistors.

its a tough call, i'd have to see the car myself to start diagnosing it. if you happen to be in the massachusetts area or new jersey (where i currently reside for training) give me a shout and i'll see what i can do. always willling to help a fellow HMT'r. :6

Dude, I'm know I'm new here but the reason I'm here is b/c I want to Turbo my M3. I saw your post and I'll bet you almost anything your friend is suffering from what all other BMW enthusiasts KNOW as "The MONEY Shift." I would bet that you will find the valves bent in the second cylinder and need to have the head rebuilt. Was there ANY difference b/w the compression of Cylindar 2 and the rest? Get ready to bend over. I've almost done this myself racing on the freeway. It totally SUX. It's one of the few weakpoints in what is generally a very good German design. Go to Bimmerforums.com or the BMW section of Roadfly.com and do some searching there for the "Money Shift" You'll find solutions and tests as well as a lot of sad stories from guys who have done the same thing. I personally feel that BMW should have an RPM dependent gate on their transmissions. Of course it needs to be modifieable for those that drive on the edge. Another way to look at it is: If your friend has the money, this is a perfect excuse to do some internal mods while they're in there. The Schrick cams and updated valve springs etc. can squeeze out a couple more ponies. Good luck to you and your friend.

haha good luck with the dealer fixing your ----, my buddys 97 M3 had a hair line crack in his old head at the top of the combustion chamber, 5500 when it was all done, 3000 for the new head, and 2500 for labor, must have been so much in labor taking so long to remove all that goddam plastic that edm cars love to sport :P
