anyone good at tig welding? can make intercoolers?

if anyone is good at tig welding, and can make a decent intercoolers, you could make aftermarket sidemounts for a 300zx, sell them for 500 -600 a pair and kill the market, right now the cheapest aftermarket IC's cost about 800 -900 bucks

they look like this

If I owned a 300zx I'd just get a regular front mount and make it work.

In theory it's better to have 2 intercoolers on a twin turbo setup and not let the air join until just right before the throttle body, or better yet have 2 plenums and 2 throttle bodies, just a balance tube between the plenums.
The theory is that if one turbo is flowing a tiny bit less than the other that will lead to turbulent flow where the air paths join.

then get two front mounts :P

If you use a dual inlet intercooler than that should solve the problem of turbulance.

Yeah, that's essentially 2 coolers on the same core.

The problem is finding the cores that are that narrow. The only people that I know of that make them is Spearco and they think there ---- is made of gold.
I do a FMIC kit for the 3000GT and Dodge Stealth TT(replaces the two tiny SMICs)that runs twin inlets into the intercooler and a single outlet to the TB, it works great. The 300Z has twin TB I think so you would have to run two outlets.

so how much would you charge me for a front mount intercooler?, and whitey, if you havent seen this engine bay, its not a honda, im sure you could probably make it work since you are good at fabricating, but i dont have a gas welder/my welds arent good enough, so im not going to attempt it. its not a simple job, plus with a FMIC on stock intercoolers there is a lot of pressure loss, therefore the turbos have to push out more psi at the turbo to = less % psi at the intake manifold.

Believe me, I'm very familiar with the clusterfuck of a Z's engine bay. Fitting anything in their is crazy

took me 2 days to install a boost controller ( im sure i coulda done it in a good 4 -5 hours) but i HMT'd it and instead of buying correct size vacuum connectors i used the stock one, cut it down, and jammed it in. HMT is a lifestyle.

greddy makes a sick ass front mount for the 300zx. it has dual inletsand outlets, and two seperate cores. the mother fucker is huge. you can't even tell the cores are seperate.

Re:anyone good at tig welding? can make intercoolers?

yeah, but it costs like 1000 dollars, who here would pay 1000 dollars for a intercooler setuP? ---- not many people would even pay 1000 for a turbo kit. much less just an intercooler.

Re:anyone good at tig welding? can make intercoolers?

yes, that very true. a guy who owns a shop local to me had his brother die in a motorcycle accident. in three days they swapped in a turbo motor into the non-turbo chassis, and had overnighted almost everything to do it. the last thing he wanted was to have his car done.

they had it blowing off as the buried him. it was pretty ------- sad.
