Anyone else hate HP?
They have now had my computer for over 3 months. WTF is wrong with these people. It would not be such a big deal if I was just using the thing to look at porn and surf the web, but I use it look at porn, surf the web, and tune cars. Their lack luster performance in customer repairs is getting into my wallet and Im tired of dicking with these people.
At which point should I just demand a new computer? |

Re: Anyone else hate HP?
I don't buy desktop computers. I build them.
|
Re: Anyone else hate HP?
They gave me an ETA of the 18th. If its not here by then Im going to demand a new one.
Hopefully I can get Calvin to hook me back up as soon as I get it. I have three cars lined up for this weekend, Im excited to see the new updates, I havent downloaded an update in a while. |
Re: Anyone else hate HP?
I build desktops, but my laptop is an hp and has never let me down. I couldn't be happier with it. Although I did custom order it online so its got everything i wanted.. it has yet to misbehave. Plus its one of the better looking brands.
|
Re: Anyone else hate HP?
HP's look is that of vomit smeared on feces.
Mr Hopkins, if you made PRI you would have seen 2/3rds of the geek brigade wielding Thinkpads. There is a reason. |
Re: Anyone else hate HP?
all i use is my HP now. i have a dell desktop but its solly used for porn now a days... O0
HP Laptop works great for everything i do which includes tunning, and all that fun ----... |
Re: Anyone else hate HP?
HP is a good brand, i like it
|
Re: Anyone else hate HP?
The only tuner I saw with a think pad was Dave himself, and it looked to have been from 98, had zero battery life so it would not run unless it was plugged in, and was cracked because a 240 had run over it. :1
I should have taken notes... Where can you get a decent priced think pad? I only bought this computer because it was the best bang for the buck at 500 dollars. Hopefully it will get better shortly. Joseph, Unfortuniately I had to hussle air conditioners all week after finals. I had to make the money so I can pay the rest of this semester off and start on the next. I am sure I missed some great conversations and would have loved to have been there. Did you end up going? |
Re: Anyone else hate HP?
My HP had been gone for almost 3months, the thing is so out of date but its still has warranty until april. I was really hoping they would just give me a new one cause it was badass 3 years ago.
|
Re: Anyone else hate HP?
I was just browsing Ebay the other day, and you can score a corporate lease/factory refurb T43 for $300-$450.
T60-61 for $500ish. My T43 is a trooper. Absolutely no problems over the last 2 years. My previous Thinkpads were just as reliable. |
Re: Anyone else hate HP?
I sometimes hate HP, but spend 80% of awake time behind one. I have used an HP tablet all school year long. Beat the ---- out of it and still worked great. Still using HP this year and ---- runs good. If you want your HP fast, install an Retail version of XP, (none of that recovery ----) and load up the latest drivers on it. All the recent HP i have worked on been running fast.

Here's the challenge, gentlemen. I'll hit your laptops with my laptop. Line up all your buddies with HP, Dell, or other commercial fecal quality fragile plastic machines because only one will survive. I have to have a machine I can rely on (as opposed to a 3 month downtime) and mine has been dropped, or ripped out of a car/thrown from a table when some fool trips over cables *multiple times*. I've yet to see a HP or the like that could withstand a baseball bat to the back of the screen, which was a design criteria of the T61. For the price I paid for my T61 not only is it a tank, but rolling up on a year old it's still faster and has noticeably more features than anything else in it's pricerange that I see at retail outlets. PS - no Thinkpad ever made, whether IBM or Lenovo, has been a Vista Brick. That says a lot about the manufacturer, they don't pull shady rip off tactics like HP. |

The Thinkpad site had some cool videos of trucks doing burnouts on T-series Thinkpads, the laptop still works fine after. T30 rimed with ice, snow, leaves where somebody's kid lost it in the ------- woods for a month - clean it off and it powers right up. I can pour a cup of coffee on my T61, it just drains out the bottom, care to replicate that with your HP? How about stand on your laptop? Jump a little? Right.

And i only paid $700 for it. so is it great... yea for what i use it for it is....any more and i wouldnt be useing it to its fullist, and would have just wasted money. sure more durability would be great, but aside from the chance of me wrecking my car from tunning and the laptop flying off the seat, i dont see a situation im in that will ---- it up.... |
Re: Anyone else hate HP?
Despite what Mr. Davis says HP are very good pc's for the private sector. Most of IBM's ---- are for Semi-industrius or commercial lappys. In others words they build IBM's for it cause basically they know all cops plumbers, field techs, contractors all those types are going to be looking at either IBM or Panasonic with the tough book so its teh market they cater to.
HP's are awesome for home PC's but ever brand has a ---- up. If you are using it for Tuning though IBM's are a better choice for heavy duty tasks and will take more abuse. |
Re: Anyone else hate HP?
I'm happy with my laptop. I have a TC4400 tablet pc and it works wonderful! Power is there from the idle to the redline, no problem. Lack of ports and I don't have any cd/dvd player...
IBM is the ----. Even if its for industrial, they are well built and have all ports you want for tuning. I don't know many laptop with parallel, serial, usb, 2 x pcmcia, VGA, s-video, ethernet, 56k, wireless. And this laptop was built in 1996 and still run Catia v5 without problem. They have 2 slots of ram, you can swap cpu, swap cd player, blah. |
Re: Anyone else hate HP?
I have HP50g calculator best for Engineering, Physics, and Mathamatics I ever used. Already has most of the equations needed for these classes in the eq. library. I walked all over all the Ti and Sharp users in my classes when it came to ability to get homework done. As for HP computers I've owned a few but the were the much older ones (86486 100mhz variety) and the were alright at the time. I have a cheap Acer and Toshiba laptops and the work great as long as I keep replacing a 2g DDR2 memory about once every 6 mo. each.

I can pour a cup of coffee on my T61, it just drains out the bottom, care to replicate that with your HP? no, but a guy with a fox body mustang backed on to our dyno when I was in the can, and clipped it with his front tire it fell 4.5ft to the floor and it was no worse for wear , as for my new dell (didn't buy it, got it given to me from a local parts supplier ) someone tripped over the cord and it fell 3ft from my tool cart and was all done - I managed to get it working again but it has no sound now and will randomly shut down |

Re: Anyone else hate HP?
I loved my hp until it had power issues, then talking to support in india 'hello my name is bob' turned me off. search on the web turns up huge threads where everyone with that frame has the same problem as me and hp refuses to fix any of them.
I did feel it was frail though, I put it in my mom's jeep and when she opened the gate it flung across the paved parking lot. One corner was split open and was generally busted. I snapped it back together and removed the broken pieces and everything still worked fine, just case damage. So I bought a Dwell precision M3400 (because of the lack of support). I hate it, I don't know what it is but this is the one dwell recommended for engineering with 3d CAD but my solidworks freezes 12 times a day and this pc just generally blows. I know little about pc's but I get all kinds of stupid problems like when you change the device settings for plugged in ac power or battery, the next reboot turns them back to factory bullshit. If I boot up with the wireless turned on, I get extra problems and jsut general headaches. |

Intel Core2 Duo CPU T7300 @ 2.00GHz 1.99 GHz, 2.00 GB Ram copied from properties, not sure what some of that ---- means. If Thinkpads were priced at an intermediate level between commercial plastic shelf units like HP, Dell, etc and the $$$ Toughbooks I can see where the average guy would have a very good excuse not to own one. When they cost just as much, or even a little cheaper, uhm I'm going to dance around like a pedantic ------- and tell everyone they are stupid. :P

Probably TSRs, and badly allocated dlls due to shoddy installers. If Timmy doesn't mind a reformat I'd steer him towards TinyXP rev08 or rev09, ---- runs great and occupies ~46 megs of RAM at system startup. |

But my old HP battlebox is back up and running now that I soldered wires directly to the motherboard to replace the faulty power jack. I was thinking it needed wiped and a fresh start so I can browse internets, maybe some email, backup of SW in case this laptop goes down, and EcTune, maybe crome/flashburn. Other than that I always tried to keep software to a minimum, you think tinyxp is the way to go then? I lost the cd's that came with the pc, it probably originally had xp pro too as that's what we tried to standardise on. Keeping with the threadjack, what antivirus you guys recommend for the above setup? It has an expired copy of norton, my company since moved to AVG but frankly I view them both as practiacally a virus in themselves. It's hard as ---- to disable or change their settings to leave ---- alone that may need left alone. |

I'll always try to shoot you right. |
Re: Anyone else hate HP?
JD, have you looked at brand new Thinkpads lately? The come equipped with Vista, and you have to pay extra to get XP. Dunno if I interpreted your, "Vista box," comment incorrectly though.
:P |
Re: Anyone else hate HP?
snm95ls, have you looked at Thinkpads lately? They come cheapest with Linux, where you don't have to pay for any sort of Microsoft product, and when you get the unit you wipe the HD and install XP sp3 that you downloaded off the internet for free.

I am looking right now actually. Somehow I am not seeing the option for Linux, yet... |
