as some of you may know i just had a baby boy, and since i already have tattoos for my daughters i need something for my son. i have been reading all day about proper procedure and safety type ----, i wanna know if any of you guy have any pointers or experience with branding.




my brother and i did one for our friend when we were teenagers and it turned out quite well, so i think i have good idea how it should be done correctly.

i already have made up my mind, its getting done.



from what i have ready making sure the brand is a 3rd degree burn makes it hurt less because all the nerves are dead. a typical 2nd degree burn would hurt worse. there will be no layers of skin left so you cant blister which causes most of the irritation during healing.



edit: about the pain lasting for weeks, as long as you mean 12-16 weeks you are right. a fully healed properly done brand takes 9-12 months

using coated metals are a major cause of problems as flakes of the coating are left under the skin, its not really an infection. its your body trying to push out the foreign objects. its like using gold as a starter earring, its more of an irritant than anything

Sounds to me like you've been reading up on some one sided information.

Sure that all sounds great on paper, but things are a little bit different once you're sitting there and a fat guy with a red hot spear walks in the room. What makes you so confident that you'll get a good quality brand? Just because the place you're going to go to says they do good quality ----? Everybody says that.

Personally I can't stand people that think piercings and body art is the ----. Yeah some tattoos and piercings are cool, but when you get into the freaky ---- like branding and hanging from hooks by your nipples....you've gone too far. You sound like the kind of guy who would like to swing around a pole by his nipples judging by this post.

As long as you get the hook in fast, I hear it doesn't hurt and it heals up in a couple of years...even though you're left with stretchy infected nipples.

I have only seen one done in person. Was this big black guy I used to work with as part of his frat. I looked cool after it was done. To much pain for my liking though.

i have read about on 3 diff places, some details differ but the medical aspect is all the same

i am not going to a shop to have it done. there are only 3 professional branders in the US



and this is where i found out you are a complete ------- idiot and should be sent to the darwin olympics, you'd def win the gold ;)

Didnt read the whole thread but "branding" sound painful. I've had a 2nd degree burn before and getting your nuts hit with a spiked bat has to be less painful :X

usually copper or steel is used. being as a peice of copper can be shaped easier than steel thats probably what i'll use.


the letters will be 2.75" tall x 1.25" wide, the brand itself will be made 1.5mm wide, which should expand out to 4-5mm.

most people who have brands did the ---- w/ a coat hanger heated on thier stove, of course it will look like ---- if you do it wrong. if you actually learn how to do it properly(type of metal, depth of burn, AFTERCARE) it is less dangerous than a tattoo. uneven heat and depth causes then to look like ----, a 1st or 2nd degree burn scars differently then a 3rd degree, thats why the finished pruduct is lumpy and takes longer to heal.

Dude, ---- branding. Go for scarification.

I live in Freak Town, USA. I've seen a number of brands gone wrong. Flat out, burns have serious infection potential and unless you want to cut out all the partially cooked meat (which might ruin the nice crisp endges to your brand) you are going to have infection problems, period. It's ------- stupid.

Scarification is different. You cut the flesh a couple layers deep and slather on an ANTIBIOTIC paste with an abiotic pigment added. It still looks somewhat crude and manly which is what I figure you're going for with your first son, you get a little choice in color, it heals pretty quick, and your arm won't rot off. Win-win situation, dude.

the of cutting seems a bit too Emo for me, that and the scars dont usually raise like a brand unless you cut through all the layers of skin. i pondered the idea of ash rubbing (mad hippy style ;) ) but they end up looking like shitty tattos


having a brand with the striking side back cut like /\ instead of l l or \/ is supposed help with making cleaner lines.

I have to say that branding doesnt sound too fun. I myself got a tattoo of my sons initials on my forearm . I guess its different strokes for different folks so if you like that kind of thing do it. YOu seem to have your heart set on doing it so go for it. Dont let any of these guys deter you if you really made your mind up.
