I'm thinkin of makin a basic potstill for shine and bourbon and things like that and wanted some other people's ideas on materials and construction etc...Post up if got any ideas

Yeah, I made my own teakettle still for less than $50, makes some pretty potent ---- but smells and tastes like hell. Be carefull not to heat the mash much over 200 because at 207 it releases an alcohol that can make you go blind, or die. I'm at school right now but when i go home next tuesday i'll take some pics of my setup if this thread is still up or i remember.

yeah we do need a write up. Im thinkin of usin 10 or 12 gallon SS milk can as my boiler, and a 5 gallon steel paint can as my thumper. When I can finally find a SS milk can for a decent price and stop being so damn lazy maybe Ill take pics of my build and do a write up.

Re: Anybody here make their own liquor?
I've been homebrewing beer for about 6 months now and have finished a number of batches. I don't have any interest in making hard alcohol really, because I just don't enjoy it as much as I do beer.
There's a lot of info out there on distilling if you look around for it. The homebrew shop where I get my supplies sells distilling equipment and ingredients. But I guess distilling is illegal in the US so he can't sell you both the ingredients and equipment in the same transaction. lol
I've always wanted to see if I could take some vodka or something and distil in some wormwood or canabis. I've heard of people doing that before but I've never tried myself.
