Any 87-93' 5.0 HMT guys ??

I know a few 5.0 guys, and I'm thinking about buy a 4banger-auto car and slapping a 5.0L with a an auto C4/6 tranny and twin turboing it via "flipped shorty headers" and 2 SVO .60/.63 turbos...

Just wondering if there are any HMT style guys on this board, hell we got HMT SHOs, why not 5.0's..

There seemed to be a few of them sticking up for the 5.0's in the "mustangs are slow" thread.

I would buy the 2.3ltr turbo stang, and build the ---- out of it. there is a guy here with one, you would swear its a 5.0 till you hear the BOV. ssseeeexxxxyyyyy.....at 25psi blowing off...

the rule of thumb ive always been told, an older car like that, if it was made for a V-8, the factory wouldve put a V-8 in it. the 4cyl cars were made for 4cyl....

body mounts/chassis/drive-train etc will all have to be switched out to do it right... :-\ and if you are gonna do everything you say...i would consider a different platform.

IMO if you wanna go turbo on a mustang, build the 2.3ltr. they are already bullet proof...and parts are cheap. those 2 combos make me ;D

its the same motor.
2.3 t-bird
2.3 svt 'stang

Re:Any 87-93' 5.0 HMT guys ??

yeah, but I'm sure an SVT stang would cost a whole lot more ;)

the turbo stangs were SVO not SVT

the parts from the junkyard are cheap to do the conversion, and there isnt that much involved.

Re:Any 87-93' 5.0 HMT guys ??

to answer my own question... turbomustangs.com has a few junkyard turbo mustangs running stock blocks and 10's...

I own a civic, and TT stealth, and I'm a former 89' LX 5.0 hatchback owner... Each has its advantages, and disadvantages..

I hate it when people are "car racest"... I like them all, if its a good car, I don't car if its made in africa... On the flip, I've seen POS Jap., german, and U.S. cars...

The fox body mustang is a legend, and your just dumb/uninformed if your going to deny its race worthyness...

Keep in mind I'm a avid honda supporter, I wouldn't buy anything new except a honda, toy, or nissan ( my non-raced 01' focus is a POS forsure !! ).

you guys can dis the mustang all you want. there's just something bout the 87'-93' mustang gt that i like. and if you slap twin turbos on there, get ready for 480hp +.

Re:Any 87-93' 5.0 HMT guys ??

actually the easiest platform to get a 10 second car is out of a 87-92 stang. they stopped putting the wide rear ends in '93.

I just think that they look like ----, but then again almost everything from the 80's looks like ass.

Do up the 2.3 Turbo, the block was cast in brazil and good for anything you'll want it for.

I love that body style. I think I would rather have one of those than the newer ones.

i have a 88 LX 5.0 hatchback

i like it, its stout and stable... it has aftermarket springs and shocks and handles awesome... i went around a really sharp onramp corner, with a acura 3.2 type s in front of me, i had to slow down because it couldn't take the corner, it was about to roll over and was weaving into the inside by the guardrail... my stang doesnt roll at all...

I had a 1988 Toyota truck(actually I had a couple of them)that has over 300,000 miles on it and is stil running to this day. I beat the living holy ---- out of this truck and the only thing that ever left me stranded was a Blaster coil, but that's aftermarket so it doesn't count. Toyota made some stout ------- trucks in the 80's, and they still do.

ive seen 5 million 80s yota trucks and they're all peices of ---- lol... they rust out, the engines run like -------, the brakes don't work... the suspension gets all fucked up awnd loosy.... just cause you had one doesnt make it so :)

my grandpas 70 chevy truck had only had the oil changed a couple times and was still using the alt it came with uptill about 3 years ago... just cause the alt lasted that long doesnt mean they all do :P

I've had a few of them and I see them driving around all day long. Rust doesn't mean ----. I'd have a hard time finding a rusty vehicle within a 50 mile radius of me, but that doesn't mean there isn't a piece of ---- vehicle near me. You can't expect any vehicle to last if you don't maintain it. Brakes are a maintenece item and they will go bad on any vehicle if you don't change them. Geez.....

Drums rotors and calipers go bad too. Do you expect them to last forever without ever having to change them? Hahaha...I hear they run out of gas all the time too. :P

Look at the skid marks in the front of your underwear - it is the same color but there are holes ;D. You guys suck, I have spent half my life fixing rust on my Cars in Ohio.

I have an SVO Mustang that is getting restored.
I like the 4cyl car, Forged Crank and rods pistons aren't forged but they are strong enough to hold 400+ HP. Plus they have a posi rear end. Tranny is heavy duty too. 16" 50 series tires, Koni struts and big sway bars. I am kind of suprised that these aren't worth more than they are, there aren't that many of them around. 1985 1/2 and 1986 were the best years most horsepower.

I have a Neon and a Mustang! I am the enemy. ;D

Any Svo would be sweet, but where I'm at, there still worth more than I'd be willing to pay...

Old dude at my work bought one with a blown head gasket for $800 and its pretty clean, but everytime I ask him " when ya gonna drive it to work", he says " when I fix a few more things", but when I ask how its running he says " runs great", hehehe...

SVO would be sweet... I'll bet it gains 40whp for a real IC, instead of its stock "heat sink".

Damn you !! I just spent an hour ( 6am-7am ) reading all that !!!

30psi on the stock block huh....
3 volvo ICs huh....
cummings tD turbo huh....
low 12's on 22 psi huh...

as said before, the bottom ends are bullet proof, and thats not used a figure of speech. 300hp can be saught out on the stock internals.

you can easily throw 20psi on the stock motor. just upgrade the turbo and put an intercooler on it. redo the fuel management.

I know my uncle put one in a sprint car a long time ago and was running around 400hp on nitro methane. 8)

A friend of mine is in the process of running 2 T3 Turbos from the 85-86 Thunderbird Turbocoupes on his 93 Stang LX 5.0. I also have a friend who has an 87 Turbocoupe. The turbocoupe moves right along, hes bumped the boost up and its a strong running car.

sprint cars run off methanol, not nitro methane. they also cant use turbos. was it an exhibition car or what becuase you cant run that in a class

2 Attachment(s)
Attachment 38747

Attachment 38748

'89 LX Hatchback...a testiment to the durability of the fox body mustang....over 300k miles on the body with a new engine, transmission, and rear end. It's N/A for now...but if it ends up not selling I might buy it off my brother and then the forced induction comes. 13.9 on street tires and 4.10 rear end...I think. (not the ones pictured)

It's for sale by the way ;)

Re:Any 87-93' 5.0 HMT guys ??

Now that I'm thinking a little clearer after a 6 hour nap...

low 12s isn't really that great for all that is done the that car.....
ported/gutted/knife edged intake
ported head
very large turbo ( large enough to dwarf the SVO 60-trim )
3'' DP and exhuast
900cfm intercooler
non-A/C, roll-up window, LX 4cylinder COUPLE !! Light as it gets.
larger remapped maf/vine sensor
upgraded throttle body
MT slicks !!!
2-step rev limiter
aftermarket turbo manifold
And lets not forget its pretty big I-4..

The stock blocked/head/intake D16Z6 has run 11.8 with FWD

This car is almost equally ghetto, but runs mid 10's. http://www.turbostangman.stangnet.com/

Yeah the older stangs seem to be much much tougher... ive seen countless newer stangs breaking tranny/rearends and driveline parts in general... But damn forced induction stangs can be some very fast/scary shizz...

I agree, but I don't have pictures of either car, the 93 Mustang is a really nice Candy Apple Red, I guess it was a limited color for 93 only. He also has some newer cobra rims on it.
