I'll try that out. I also have a 91/30 I picked up at the same time because it was on sale. They're way too fun.

you know you own a mosin when:

you knock down everyone elses targets downrange from the shockwave

you hit the broadside of a barn 2 counties over

you fire a second shot to relocate the dislocated shoulder from the first shot

you can go polevaulting with your rifle

Just got back from buying/shooting my Nagant. Bad ass gun, had no issues with it running 20 rounds through it. Gotta get a nice case for it now, and I ordered a couple 100rd lots from Cabela's because they are a lot cheaper that way than 20 at a time from semi-local gun store. Any advice on cleaning the stock? Mine's got some greenish ---- on it that I'd like to remove. Goddamn you complex...

Edit: There has to be a goddamn way to get this bastard safetied... ------- christ it hurts trying

i told you, then you said 'im a big guy, ill handle it' ;)

they're a bitch, but thats because it's the same spring as the firing pin spring, aka may as well be a coil off of a honda.

murphys oil soap and a 3m mesh sanding pad thing to strip the stock down. sand with paper beforehand if you need to. restain it in the color of your choice. shellac it, or get it urethane coated, or even rubberized (plasti-dip will work 8))

for the safties some people send them away to be modified to have rings on the back. It's easier to put it on safety that way.

I took my 91/30 out this week and I was having a bitch of a time ejecting the shells. Getting the bolt all the way straight up took just about an act of god. Is that just from using ---- milsurp ammo? Anything else I can do?

Re: To all you Mosin Nagant rifle owners

if you guys are having a hard time with opening the bolt after firing its because you got some ---- in the chamber that grabs onto the case as it expands. what i did was take a 12 gauge shotgun brass brush and put it on a cleaning rod and stick it on a drill and get some solvent on the brush and then go to town for like 5 minutes on the chamber.
keep oscillating the brush to get all the cosmoline/rust/nazi blood out of there and then pour a bunch of soapy water through it and then oil it up and it will work awesome.
