It's no doubt a fun car, but I heard horror stories of wheel hop when turbo'd and massive torque steer. To this day I have a feeling I would have ---- myself under boost in that car :)

i saw a very clean boosted gti vr6 on the road in jacksonville florida this past summer, we were cruising side by side down 9a at about 70mph and he dropped it down to i'm assuming 3rd and broke loose, seemed like nice smooth wheel spin, the he caught traction and flew past me. it was beautiful. it was a very clean car, so i'm sure he had a lot of suspension mods too. when i came back home (north carolina), i talked my boy in to boosting his, but he also like you gave up about 3/4 way in to the project :'( they're pretty luxurious on the inside also.

a 92 would be CE2 from the factory, and he is prob running digifart G60 managment since its factory and it plugs in w/ little changes

its not expensive for a MK2 VR swap, you use all factory parts, ive seen complete swaps (eng, trans, shifter, subframe, rado knuckles, etc) for less than $1500, after a tune up and a few bolt-ons maybe $2500

its a very cost effective swap
175hp & monster tq + 2400lb car = kill most N/A hondas

Well here's the way I thought of it:

Cost of car: 8,000

Cost of turbo setup: 5,000+

I had already speant 13,000 dollars on the car and realized it was crazy so overnight I decided "screw this", sold everything I had (still have the turbo, no one on the 'tex wants a tangential turbo :() I didn't have engine managment or an intercooler or all of the misc installation fees dealt with yet either. I was talking to my friend about how stressful it was to juggle this much money that I didn't have and just decided to stop. He found a CRX in the valley trader, I called the guy, the rest as they say is history :)

Have you ever worked on a VR6? even just a volkswagen for that matter? not only does every aspect of their design exist solely to make work for you more complicated, but I can guarentee no matter how well you plan and how good a job you do, something will go wrong. It's the way of the volkswagen.

that reminds me i need to invest in a set of Weld Drag Lites and slicks

what do you have a really mild street build 351? stock heads? a cam and a intake and carb? ive seen cars with 2x the hp of your on the street hook it up before 3rd, get a stickier tire or learn how to drive ;)

i work in the parts dept of a VW Dealer i know more about them than half the technicians in the shop

and if you are talking about boosting your MK3 GTi then yes it would be hard, the engine barely fits in the bay, honestly it fits BETTER in a MK2

oh yeah i better not forget... I own a 92 Jetta Carat

If you're gonna race him for money Pat, make it like, $20 bucks or so. That way you don't take a huge hit just in case he is fast. Another thing though, if you say the people around your way are kinda shady, bringing money to the scene could cause people to get bitter when you beat them, leading to car jackings, fights, vandalism, etc. I've never seen a race for money that ended with the loser shaking hands and paying.

Just from seeing your car in action and guessing what a boosted VR6 would be like, I'd say it'd be a good race. You should let us know how it goes down (I didn't read the whole post... did it already happen? LoL)

I raced a VR6 GTI with some type of cams with my car once and smoked it hard, but that's not really the NA equivalent of what you're doing hehe.

Oh and BTW, I got this video of you racing Arby's now deceased yellow ITR...

Re:92gti vr6 turbo vs. BBKA for money?

I haven't raced him yet and I probably won't for money (just going to race him for fun). I just kinda wanted some opinions from people that actually have raced for money. Everybody around here always asks to race for money (I think they have seen the fast and the furious a few too many times).

Hey can you post that video somewhere? I really want to see that. I heard from eddie that he was running a 120 shot because I know that wasn't all motor. I thought I got out ahead of him pretty good, then all of a sudden like halfway through the race he just flew by and I was like WTF! lol... Do you by chance have video of me racing that white coupe also? That is the only all motor honda that ever beat me from a dig (I did get him on the freeway though ;)). People were trying to tell me it was a stock type r, but that's BS... that car was pretty damn quick.

the gti in question is a 1992.. the round front headlight style.

from the looks of research on the net, they are easy 12's on turbo.
