6 15" subs in a civic?

What the hell for ? Why not and because I can. I know most, well ok, almost all of you could care less but ---- it, I'll post em up anyways. I turned my quick civic into a ------ tank! She is still faster than most ricers just a little louder hehe. We needed another "shop" car (ok not really) and I decided to kick back to the lets go deaf ages. It was a personal challenge and I wanted to do a straight old school beat down wall behind the "b" pillar. This just means its time for another car and turbo project! A few pics for you.

Here she is so far. 6 15" subs stuffed in my tiny Civic. The carpc setup will be purdy you guys will like it! Give me a few more weeks of building and I should have some newer pics for you but for now, enjoy!

First we must gut!

http://img220.imageshack.us/img220/5241/image006vp0.jpg

Then after 3 days of measuring, calculating and drawing we get to cut some wood woohoo! This is just the front board and yes it is fitted to the car lol super tight fit.
http://img149.imageshack.us/img149/5927/image007jf9.jpg

The enclosure pre-assembled after a test fit in the car. Next is break it down and final assembly in the car all glued and screwed. No it does not just slide right in it has to be assembled inside the car piece by piece. Look at that port!

Update: got her in there. Now the fun ---- begins heh. Trim panels, final wiring and the entire backhalf. Sigh...

http://img242.imageshack.us/img242/7616/dscf0873jb6.jpg

The front half is ALMOST done, cleaner pics to come these are a few from the weekend. Theres a few panels that need to be matched etc. and the doors yet. But for the most part the "wall" is basicaly finished up.

Sidewall flex? Nah!

Roof is in. Roof console is done, wired and in just no pics yet.

One of the many trim pieces. These look simple but let me tell you they are a bitch! 1/16" clearence between these and the outer upper subs. I used double sided tape to compensate for vinyl clearence :)

One of those bitch pices installed and keeping seatbelts! Now to match those a pillars...

Use your imagination.

No vids yet but I do plan on taking it down the 1/8th for shits and giggles :P I'm gonna say low 9's heh. btw I have no clue wtf conspicuous means so I googled it. I am slightly offended by #3...to each his own ;)

Main Entry: con·spic·u·ous

Function: adjective
Etymology: Latin conspicuus, from conspicere to get sight of, from com- + specere to look -- more at SPY
1 : obvious to the eye or mind <conspicuous changes>
2 : attracting attention : STRIKING <a conspicuous success>
3 : marked by a noticeable violation of good taste

? 1" MDF not 3/4 reinforced with bracing. Box is 12cuft internal tuned to 37 hz. Floorboards and roof is 3/4" and foamed to hell.

Re: 6 15" subs in a civic?

Yeah I had planned on bracing there wasnt sure what you were refering to. After test fitting the subs I decided not to because the top, bottum and sides of the subs are not just mounted to the face, they screw into the side boards. The clearence is just that tight! So, in order for it to flex in that area the sub baskets themselves would have to flex. Its not really an SPL setup as I have it tuned pretty low. Its mostly for the shop and advertising. I could win spl events all day with 2 12's in a CRX. I'm hoping to see around 155-157 depending on the event and type of mic. Its a sort of a low power setup and should do really well in my class. I finished 1st in the state with 2 state records on my last setup and was invited to USACI World Finals Super Stock 901-1800 class. This is only a 901-1800watt "Modified" setup ( 4000 watts rms .75 ohm if you follow this type of ----). Super low power for the setup really. The subs we use are very efficiant. So far, it hurts. I tossed the amps in there last night before I really started to cover panels up and what not to hunt for rattles or weak areas and ----. No tuning or break in it pegged our old school analog meter (reads up to 155 but its a soft mic) playing just music no tones haha.

Re: 6 15" subs in a civic?

A friend of mine is really heavily into car audio setups and builds boxes and ----. He sold me a 12" Audiobahn subwoofer, huge slot port box (no idea what it's tuned to), and a hifonics amp for $260. The subwoofer and box were both brand new.

He says I'm probably pushing around 140-144 dbl in my CRX and I believe it. I googled what effects different dbl has on a person and it said at 144 your vocal cords vibrate and you talk funny...which happens in my car. I think bitchasscracker and ososlohatch have heard it from the outside...can't remember if I turned it up for them or not.

so why did you choose to use Merlon Audio subs for?? if you were gonna do a setup like that i would have guess you would have used something like the new rockfords, MA's, kickers, lanzars, Fi, RE's, JL's, MTX or something of very high standards. i never heard of Merlon Audio though. i need to hear those subs.....

dseries.org sticker on top of a bootleg HMT sticker? I say BANN!!!!

I'm thinking about putting a sealed 10 in my hatchback, but I don't have a fucken clue about what's good, and what's bullshit. I'm not entering any sound competitions, but I'm not rushing to pep boys for kraco amps and subs either.

Re: 6 15" subs in a civic?

Working on the backhalf this weekend. I'm really not into big bass myself more of an audiophile but the sq ---- got old. Too uppety in that class and lack of participants. As for the speakers...they cost me nadda! Merlon is a small company trying to get their name out there. Yes they are inexpensive but they are the best bang for the buck imo. In my area and what people want they fit the bill perfect as for price and performance. Sure there are plenty of better, louder, harder hitting subs but like I said, they cost me nothing and in our market area high dollar ---- doesnt sell. I finished last year with enough points to get a World Finals invite and 2 state records for my class. So, we already carried Merlon in the store and thought we would do another demo vehicle.

They are very efficiant subs. I am using just 2 Merlon 3000 amps (1800 watts rms each) and we mic'd it today. No extra batteries yet, 170 amp alternator, virtualy no break in or amp tuning and it burped a 155.4 on our super stiff termlab mic at 54hz. Way over my expectations. My 2 Orion H2 15's on the same amps did a 149 on our mic to give you an idea. No power increase, just 4 more subs and gaining over 6 db is HUGE!

BTW here's your smilies puke away brutha. Just because I got "what every nigganeez" you wanna hate on me :( Ahh well.

How can I answer and give you just one choice? Budget, power, sound quality all play factors. I could probably name off 5 in each category so that doesnt help you much. BTW I bought that sticker from this site a few years ago ::)

one 10" pioneer competition premier sub 10" round and 20" deep its like 4 subs in one.

or you can get what I use audio bahn 10" dvc I ran 2 of them using a sony xplod amp and delivered 157db with the volume set at 20 and the amp half way up.

Re: 6 15" subs in a civic?

I'm going to be running 4 61/2's with about 100 watts each. I want a sealed 10" with low box volume to accompany the 4 6 1/2's. Maybe 3-400 watts going to the sub. Nothing blasting, but if it sounds like a clean 12" I'll be happy.

I'll be listening to rock/metal/country too, so I don't need any jiggawatts.

Re: 6 15" subs in a civic?

stealtmode u will be fine with 300-400 watts on a single 10 or 12. i recommend picking up a kicker cvr 10" or 12", or maybe even a alpine type r of either size.im running a single SPL 12" with 400 watts going to it. trust me it gets loud in my trans am. its a 1200 watt peak sub.
