2.2 cobalt

I had my cobalt for about a year now, and im looking into more power.....not sure what to do payments are at a low $200 a month and thinking of building the engine up, not sure to go supercharged, turbo or N/A. What do you guys think i should do?

omfg noobs need to dieeeeeeeee

homemadeTURBO.com

turbo the bitch. just throw a mani, turbo, charge pipes on and then boost straight into the intake. no wastegate or intercooler or management. shits on warranty mang

mcfly 04-09-2007 02:44 PM

Re: 2.2 cobalt

Naw, id rather do it right, intercooler tuning ect but still build it myself or have people help since i never turboed before haha, i wonder if the gm 4 banger will hold ??? hahaha dont know gm engines real well

BirdmanMD 04-09-2007 02:47 PM

Re: 2.2 cobalt

if its the same as the ss supercharged block those things respond to boost pretty damn well. just find yourself some ss pistons for cheap and go to town

Re: 2.2 cobalt

yeah one thing i do know the ss and the ls block are the same for the cobalt, just the ss stroke is shorter, what would be a good turbo to run? i dont want to spend alot on this but lol still enough for it to be a good car, and she will be a sleeper, only thing would be lowered, rims and some tint :y

No body kit what's your problem?

Just read around man, throw whatever turbo you want on it. ----, look what people put on other 2.2L engines and you can safely assume it'd be ok to run on yours as long as redline is similar.

I just don't get it.

Re: 2.2 cobalt

why dont you see about a swap for the "good" motor they came with

mcfly 04-11-2007 05:17 AM

Re: 2.2 cobalt

the 2.0 ss engine is fucken expensive, last time i checked they are around 4-5g

RedCavz 04-11-2007 09:05 AM

Re: 2.2 cobalt

that engine is fine for what you want. 300whp stock block all day. use hptuners to tune it and you'll never have a problem. aluminum 2.2 block, iron sleeves from the factory.

Re: 2.2 cobalt

I'd say the cheapest way to get a nice boost in power would be to sell it and buy a car meant to go fast.

Or you could check the junkyards, wrecking yards (think towing service), and impound lots religiously to check for wrecked, stolen, abandoned (hey...it is a cheap GM car) Cobalt SS Supercharged and just yank the motor, tranny, computer, whatever else out of it.

If nothing else you should be able to use the supercharger off of it and put the rest on eBay. But I don't know anything about GM's so I might not be correct.

Re: 2.2 cobalt

I love it. So your "sleeper" will be lowerd with rims and tint?

Real subtle there. no one will see a lowered 2 door coupe with aftermarket tint and rims 2 sizes larger than what it came with as something sports car oreinted. Nice work.

mcfly 04-11-2007 02:59 PM

Re: 2.2 cobalt

well if come where i live, riced out cars everywhere but have no go, i beat half the kids here who have bodykits, rims lowered tint ect....so people would think nothing of it

Re: 2.2 cobalt

I dunno man I hear folks saying all the time "I am gonna build a street sleeper with an awesome bodykit and rims ...." I have always felt like a sleeper should mean something you can overlook even if your a car enthusiast. lil evo is a prime example.

No one thinks that is a 400 whp AWD monster.

this is not sleeper.

Re: 2.2 cobalt

when I was looking for a new car, my aunt(she worked at a GM dealership at the time) tried to turn me on to one...they had one of the N/A 2.4 SS cars on their lot and she was telling me how you could get the supercharger package through GM and bolt it on to the 2.4...wonder how that would run....I saw a pretty cool video of an SS 2.0 w/mods pulling on a modded SRT-4 pretty good...blew the piston rings at the end though :-\

HondaTuner 04-11-2007 08:21 PM

Re: 2.2 cobalt

He was just telling me he's looking at Evo, STi, SpecV, and SS Cobalt (wtf, you said on here you hated them)... doesnt want an srt-4 cuz "its still a neon"... well guess what kaleb you're driving a glorified cavalier :P

mcfly 04-11-2007 08:22 PM

Re: 2.2 cobalt

haha ss cobalt is on my list, but im not a real fan of them...if it comes down to it and i get a good deal ill trade my cobalt in on one and get the stage 2 done

CspecRun 04-11-2007 08:29 PM

Re: 2.2 cobalt

do urself a favor and get something that is factory force inducted...I have a SpecV and I'm going through all the work(and $$) of getting all my parts together, I'm sure it'll be worth it when I'm done and it's set up, but I really wish I could go hop in a boosted car in the mornin'...
