1940 Chrysler Coupe
Anyone know anything about them? Might be picking one up and going gasser style with it. Big velocity stacks, high SCR small block Chevy, monster truck like ride height. Pics to come tommorow

Re: 1940 Chrysler Coupe
lol cool. Get the solid front axle
|
Re: 1940 Chrysler Coupe
Wow, what a waste.
At least post pics before you ruin it. |
Re: 1940 Chrysler Coupe
How would that ruin it? Not a fan of the gasser wars period? Might have found a mild V8 and trans out of a 67 Dart that may work in the car. Or just boost the straight 6?
|
Re: 1940 Chrysler Coupe
monster truck like ride height not a bad Idea, but I would probably leave it looking stock. Whats its got V8 or strait 8? I cant remember if Chrysler had a strait 8, that maybe the GM flatheads Im thinking about. |
Re: 1940 Chrysler Coupe
Haven't had a chance to speak with the current owner or get under the hood, but I assume it has the Chrysler slant 6 and an auto trans. Might just go rat rod with it and see what I can get out of the six. Someone has to have gotten one to go fast at some point. Car is in really nice shape on the outside, looks like the guy just didn't have the time or $$ to put paint over the primer.

Re: 1940 Chrysler Coupe
455 big block.....or whatever chrysler's big block is...i dont know...slick's and ------ drag it. my dads friend has and old anglia, that thing ------ rips!!
|
Re: 1940 Chrysler Coupe
If I had the $$$, there are a lot of engine/trans choices. But very tight budget if I get this thing. Chrysler's "big blocks" were the 440/6, 426 and the 426 Hemi. Both are out the ass expensive, and a 392 Hemi is also out, as they are about as pricey as the later 426 hemi's motor. If I were to stick with Mopar, a 360 or 383 would be nice, but a 318ci v8 is much more likely, however lame that sounds

Re: 1940 Chrysler Coupe
mmmm, i see. big blocks are overpriced, i think....a chev 454 and 12-bolt posi would be a good start. ive always wanted to do that to my 77 nova...keep in mnid its the turd brown color, lol

Re: 1940 Chrysler Coupe
shoot slap a 406 ford motor in that bad boy :6 or a 289 for a nice little reliable motor
|
Re: 1940 Chrysler Coupe
427FE?
|
Re: 1940 Chrysler Coupe
318 would work if you are on a tight budget, wheelwell headers, stick tranny, the problem with teh velocity stacks is the multi carb setup is big dollars, cheaper to fing a junkyard 360, re-ring, bearing and gasket it, mild port and valve job, cam and spring kit from any magazine vendor, econoline van front end for your straight axle, moon tank on the nose, single plane intake, bg carb, then an old style breather from a swap meet or e-gay....tin work on tHE INTERIOR, old buckets covered in vinyl, swap meet guages, soem flat black paint, repop speed equipment stickers, and voila, fun, retro gasser.....

Re: 1940 Chrysler Coupe

Re: 1940 Chrysler Coupe
True, but don't think it is stock... Alledgedly you can find an Aussie Hemi head for the slant as well, and aluminum block motors. Lotta options to make it :6

Re: 1940 Chrysler Coupe

Re: 1940 Chrysler Coupe
This is true. Plus, that movie lied to you. The Monte Carlo's had a 502 and a 572, not 632 motors... :y
