16.6 1/4 mile.. vtec not engaging
My buddy took my 95 ex sedan to the strip. all he could pull off in like 15 runs in the 1/4 was a 16.6.... terrible!!!! I have an exhaust and intake and a fairly new exedy clutch. there is no longer any ac or power steering on the car... and similar setups are quicker than mine.... so i'm wondering if my vtec Solenoid is fucked is there a way to check? thanks

Yeah man, there are not a lot of people that know that the elevation of where you live really makes a difference. An Si civic or any car with a swaped B16, runs mid 15's to high 14's but that its!!! Turbo that and 13's you will get. 12's are kind hard to acheive over here but if you go any where else like Cali, 12's no problem!!! El Paso, TX by the way is near the mountains, elevation is high.

ya dude your not ganna get much better. 16.4 is what it does stock! so factor in all the stuff you did the life of the engine wear and tear! how many miles it has on it. 16.6 is about average! its not ganna be much faster!!

ya i always thought mileage didnt really matter but when i tore my 200k d16a6 down the head was so full of carbon it was crazy.
seriously a 1/4 inch on all sides of the ports. and the intake ports were full of oil from the pcv valve. after i cleaned all that crap out the butt dyno registered 20 hp! not really but it was very noticeable.
do you have new air filter, fuel filter, correct timing, correct a/f ratio (no big pumps or injectors), a new cat convertor, new plugs, new wires, etc, etc? all those can kill hp pretty easily.
i love when ppl put a $600 pimped out chrome exhaust system behind a stock 150k mi cat convertor.. that is prob more of a restriction than the old exhaust was.

This was done in miland, MI on like a 70-80 degree day. yeah... filter was newer... but the fuel filter... i was meaning to replace that. I have no cat... new plugs and 2.5 inch exhuast well, kinda had to use 2.25 for a few bends. So... i am at the right site to make it faster.... but not for a while.... currently blowing all money on CRX. Thanks for the help and everything.
