yea where i live...i go to the track in palmdale. there was a guy from i think idaho visiting his parents and ran his car....he did a 15.6 with his crx. but at home he does hi 14's. so you really cant compare times.

why would he be faster in montana?...the colder air?, i always thought the air was less dense and thus worse for cars because of the altitude

Re:1/4 mile time

Montana is not all mountainous. :P But yes, the cooler more dense air, will contain more atoms of oxygen than expanded hot air of Arizona.. Here in Kansas City, a car running say a 15 flat, but could go a little futher south to Joplin, MO and run a 14.6 ot 14.7.. why? altitude.. Same car goes to Arizon, lower altitude, higher air temps.. probably owuld run a 15 again, or higher if it's hot.. You never know.

These inconsistant conditions throughout the country make it almost impossible to "compare" times between people. That's why I disregard people who boast "My car is faster, because I ran so an so.."

In the end it's all relative.

Re:1/4 mile time

i agree about the disparities of time with where a car was run, but i thought higher altitudes hurt times because the air is less dense

For some reason or another, altitude never crossed my mind. Makes since (duh). :-\

Ya.. that would be correct.. but only after like a certain height. I remember seeing a "chart" of a mountin with the elevations scaled up it and colored coded air densities when I was in geography in 7th grade. I wish I had that chart, it was very useful. Oh well.. but yes..

PV=nRT
P=pressure
v=volume
n=moles
r=a constant
t=temperature

you want lots of n, that's o2 molecules in our case, the more of that you get the faster your car goes.

did you do this more than once? what were some of your other times?
the reason i ask is because sometimes there is always that chance of the track timer error.
i know one time i went to the track with my dx turbo rex and the timer glitched and gave me a 1.6 60 foot. with no name street tires. and still a slow et.
