thats why they have vtec, most people convert to odb1 so they can run a factory ecu, and chrome/uberdata

Re: $500??
Bolt the T-Belt cover back on, and then bolt the drive pulley back on using the impact wrench (you did have to get one didn't you? I knew it!) Slide the Alternator belt, and AC belt back on the drive pulley. Tighten them back up respectively. Bolt the Dist. back on. The A6 Dist. is NOT going to line up to the Z6 head, so you have several options here...either use the two side bolts with large washers to hold the assembly on, or do some creative metal fabrication to make it look better. This is entirely up to you. A suggestion would be to bolt it down with the same amount of room on either side of the bolts, incase you need to advance or retard yor timing a bit.

Re: $500??
any vtec motor (or mini me) you put in your car, and run off a switch, is going to suck. ive done it several different ways. its really not much faster than just a d16a6 if you dont use the PROPER ecu for your motor. no, not chipping your obd0 ecu to be like a vtec one, or vafc, or any other ghetto way. you put the motor in, use the correct distributor AND ecu. So it looks like you should use the y8 distributor (if you have a y8 head) and a p28 ecu. Get the obd0-obd1 conversion harness and its a piece of cake. Dont do it any other way.

Re: $500?? (crx/"mini me" questions)
how does this sound...
do the Y8 head swap stay obd0 for the time being and use an rpm switch for vtec, run the Y8 fuel pressure reg and an adjustable camshaft sprocket
ASAP get a P28 and the obd0 to obd1 conversion harness set up to run uberdata
