Yup, those 80's turbo Subarus are real hard to find. There are only forty in the local junkyard, if they haven't been crushed. Inconsequential production numbers. They only made slightly more of them than Honduh Civics - there's a rare beast right there.

my wrx had gotten full spool 15+ psi at 2700rpm but fell on its *** at round 6k. i would say for a small dseries that wants fast spool its not to bad of a choice. an oem turbo for bout $100 with bout 20k mile average should be a nice deal. wrx can make bout 230-240 whp with a decent tune. thats bout 290+ crank. wrx's awd system sucks out alot of juice.

td04L is good for the d-series, but a little small on the larger disp/higher revving b-series.

In fact, those 80's turbo Subaru's used a short intermediate pipe to connect to the turbo, with an easily removed mild steel 3 bolt flange. This makes them impossilbe to use... or at least slightly less impossible than turboing a Honda Civic, which no one to date has ever done.
