regardless of what anyone posts after this, if you want to keep your sanity, you need a good (can't stress that enough) impact wrench and compressor. A crappy wrench or a compressor that doesn't supply enough cfm will just give you headaches. Any other method is more trouble than it is worth. Borrow some tools. Or take the starter off... ::)

yeah, after doing some research,
its becoming aparent that I definetely cant get it off with my current toolset.

I might just take it to a shop and have them loosen it,
then put it on tight enough for me to get home, and i'll do the rest.

what did you mean about taking the starter off?
hows that gonna help?

Well, the only option without air tools is to use something to hold the pully still while you put A LOT of pressure on the bolt to turn it. and don't forget, it turns the opposite way from a "normal" (non-honda) pulley - the bolt turns counter-clockwise if I remember correctly. You don't want to make your job harder by tightening it accidentally! Anyway, one thing you can try is using a strap wrench on the pully. Don't bother with nylon or rubber, look for a chain big enough to fit over the pully. I couldn't even find one when I looked here. Or, you can take off the starter and stick something in the flywheel to keep it from turning. Not worth it IMO. Just use an impact wrench, or don't bother - unless you are very mechanically inclined and don't mind a lot of extra work.

well I after a bunch of trial/error,
I found a pretty friggin sweet way to lock the pulley in place.

I just jammed one of the metal rods from a honda car jack into one of the holes in the pulley, It went though and then when the pulley turns, the rod hits the bottom of the block/top of oil pan, and locks it.

But now you say the bolt turns opposite?
well.. that doesnt say much to me, it will turn both ways..
but which way tightens and which way loosens is the question.
I assumed its like any other bolt in the known universe,
and counter clockwise loosens it(assuming the pulley itself is locked in position).
am I wrong?

Interesting. I'm pretty sure my pulley doesn't have the holes you mentioned. I'll have to check some time. Anyway, yes, I think that is correct, altho (and someone correct me if I'm wrong) on every other CRANK PULLY in the known universe, it is the opposite. That is because it has to be the opposite of the spin of the pulley so it doesn't unfasten itself. On a honda, if you don't know this, you just luck out. Or, if you know crank pulleys, but don't know honda, you are up a creek, jumping up and down on a breaker bar all day. lol

well I went ahead and had a local shop loosen the bolt for me. they charged me $35 bux though :(

then I went ahead and did the rest myself..
DAMN what a P.I.T.A.!!!
messing with the timing belt is definetely something you want to do with the engine out of the car.

argh.

I retorqued the pulley bolt to 100lbs, although its recommended like 140 or so.

hopefully things should be all good now...
too bad i'm burning oil too :( :( :(!! >:( >:( :'( :'(
