why wont my car idle?
Ive got the usual suspects, 93 sohc vtec, fmic, t3, 450cc injectors, vafc hack. It idles when I start the car, but it will stall if Im driving and I have to stop. Air fuel is all over the place, very rich in idle, slightly rich/stoich in accelleration, very lean in decelleration with car in gear. I retarded my timing on the distributor a little past half way. Another thing, it seems like when I press on the gas its hesatating to go.. and then it all comes in at once? Does anyone else have this problem? How can I fix it.
i have the same problem with the car hesitating and then giving it all right after...it has something to do with the ECU leaning out and richening to save on fuel economy (atleast that's to my understanding) alghough, I am using an FMU, maybe your settings are not correct...what are they?
check your idle control. I had the same problem it would be fine when i started the car up but after it warmed up it would stall on me when i came to a stop or when i was slowing down and threw it into neutral. What was happening was that when the car went into neutral the rpm's would drop really low to like 400rpm's to low to keep the car running. So i set my idol to about 750rpm this way when they drop they drop downed to about 550 and kicked back up to between 650 and 750.
what are your settings at idle. oh, and the bogging is probably the lag from the turbo. be careful when adjusting your idle air controller, it will kick your check engine light on if adjusted incorrectly
get your car dyno tuned. you are probably way too rich. your ecu will try to compensate, but it won't be able to totally do it. also after i installed the hack i ran into the same problem with stalling. i readjusted my trottle cable because i had never adjusted it and it was a little stretched and loose (need about .25 inch of deflection) and then readjusted my idle via the idle set screw on the tb. set it to 750 like stock and haven't had the problem since. your biggest problem is you are probably running too rich. when i made my settings i thought i was rich, but didn't realize that i was soo rich that i was flooding it and also losing a lot of hp.
If your using the V-AFC hack and you have idle problems what you need to do it adjust your settings in the 1K - 4K rpm band on the V-AFC. If you have idle problems and your current setting is -42 trying going lower like -40 or even -39. I have a 2000 civic si and my setting is -39. My friend have a 99 EX and his setting is -38. I cant see why your settings is so high. Try is out and let me know if you have any other questions about the V-AFC hack.
