Why Less boost in 2nd, 3rd.. gears ?? Help
Ok, Heres my problem. Im pushing 8 lbs on stock internal wastegate on dsm t25. (1g dsm BOV) My ride is 92 Honda Civic d16z6.
The Problem: If I go from a stop, my first gear builds 8lbs (like it should), but after I shift, sometimes 2nd only builds 6lbs, same with 3rd. But.. If I start in second or third (from a roll) it builds 8lbs fine. Am I shifting too fast, and not letting all the pressure out? or is it cause my rpm's are already higher, and its pushing the wastegate open early? Im confused :S |
Re: Why Less boost in 2nd, 3rd.. gears ?? Help
internal wastegates are garbage.
try a new actuator. |
Re: Why Less boost in 2nd, 3rd.. gears ?? Help
im using a HF mani, so a external will prob out of the question. And I dont kno if another actuator would push the 8lb boost I want.

Re: Why Less boost in 2nd, 3rd.. gears ?? Help
im gonna guess the actuator is on its way out, try to find another one with a similar opening psi

Ditch the wastegate actuator and run a spring! It's a simple yet effective solution.

disconext the vac line to the waste gate and see if its any better.
also check for any boost leaks |

I'd try shimming the actuator or putting a helper spring on the arm. But it alot of cases this can be a result from a cracked exhaust housing. The best way to fix this would be a external gate. |

thanks guys, Ill try some suggestions.

If it's wastegate creep your suffering from, maybe this sort of thing would help? I forget the name of the type of valve it has in it, but it keeps the boost away from the actuator until it reaches the set boost level. Dunno what the pros and cons are for these.

Yeah I thought as much. I was just using that particular one as an example. BTW what do the hardware stores call them? It's got a ball bearing and spring inside it to act as the valve.

WTF ???
you'd better come through with the goods on this one, OK.

you cannot buy the entire valve, assembled and all at a hardware store. They carry the parts you need, and you have to make it yourself.
